Black screen of death?!?

So recently I purchased a brand new motherboard and cpu and when I installed it, it posted just fine and I can get to the BIOS but when I choose to boot to my hard drive it just goes to a black screen with the blinking underscore! Someone help!! I'm in urgent need of assistance!

Does this hard drive have windows installed on it? You might be booting to the wrong hard drive.

Yes, it does have Windows installed. Also, the only hard drive in the rig.

Your HDD might be bad. Did you make sure it is connected to the PSU and the SATA port? Did you try switching which SATA port is uses? Do you have another HDD with windows installed that you can test with?

I have checked all of the above and yes, everything is connected. It recognizes the hard drive but it just won't boot. It worked the day before on my old motherboard which is what I don't understand.

If it booted on your old motherboard then that means your new motherboard is probably faulty. Probably a SATA problem. You can boot into BIOS so it's not your CPU. Have you tried testing your RAM with memtest?
