Black screen when going above 1920x1080 on 4k tv

Whenever i change my resolution above 1920x1080 i get a blackscreen. Using an hdmi cable
My specs are
1080 TI
i7 7700k
16 gb of ram

i just tried another port but uh only one of them is working. It acknowledges that an hdmi is in the port but just says searching for signal

are you dual screening or just tv?
if dual then do you use Clone or Extended display mode?

If only tv, Check if TV has 4k, try to change the cable, try to update drivers for GPU. if everything fails try using a Dispay Port.
