Couple years ago I build myself PC. Decided to upgrade my GPU from 560 ti to Gigabyte gtx 970 Gaming G1 so I could play new dragon age and upcoming Withcer 3 and such.

Anyway, long story short. after uninstalling gtx 560 ti drivers, taking the card out and putting new card in my monitor wont get any signal. its just black screen for some seconds and then goes on standby. Ive tried DVI-D cable and VGA to DVI-I cable as those are the only ones in my monitor. both give same result: black screen.

Windows boots up normally, I can hear the beep and lights flash on keyboard/mouse/etc as normal. but there is nothing on my screen, not even for a second. I removed the card and tried integrated intel HD graphics, it worked fine. then put back in my gtx 560 ti and it was working like charm too (using it during this writing). Any idea what I should do?

try to reset bios to optimised defaults. if doesnt work, put the gtx 560ti back in and use driver uninstaller to remove all of nvidia drivers. turn off computer, install the gtx 970 and power on. reinstall latest gpu drivers. hopefully that will work.

this issue usually happens to amd cards so im hoping this fix will work with your nvidia. if not, i would say that the card is faulty. take it back to the store that u purchased if from and have them test it

@BrandleyJames I did all that first time. or tried to do. I cant get into windows or even bios if the card is plugged in. I just get a black screen, nothing in it. same as it had no power. so kinda hard to instal drivers without screen and Im not sure if the PC knows that I have gtx 970 plugged in if I try to use the integrated graphic card to get "screen time" for the nvidia driver installation. Im pretty sure the driver installation will just fail as it detects no nvidia card.

@Suztera I thought about that but that update is over 2 years old. Would do nothing with cards that came couple months ago. or would it? also my system is working as charm otherwise, would not risk it all with bios update. There is always a chance that it just causes more problems than it solves.

I could try different PCI-E slot but my case is quite stuffed so it might not fit in it. also the old GTX 560 ti card works fine in the slot I tried to use the GTX 970. Im so out of options.. Had to wait for over a month to get this card in the first place. place I bought it dont have any spare ones either. so cant realyl try to swap it in case of faulty DVI-D / DVI-I port. Man this makes me annoyed

Try the BIOS update. It may be that the update was to add support for PCI-E gen 3.0 cards (I think the Z68 chipset still used PCI-E 2.0)

I wouldn't as you'll have to be able to view the screen to start the update. I would suggest running the update whilst using integrated graphics

Alright, I try that. I'll keep you posted

okay.. managed to update bios. after trying to find right usb port for it to even start. after that had to remove cmos battery to get anything to work again. and now Im at least able to log into windows but I got some weird things now. I cannot click icons on my taskbar. there is also around 7 empty taskbar "slots" between the icons. also after some time I got error saying that my windows might not be genuine and now there is some small print saying its not genuine... geez... I wish I can get the card to work now -_-

That can happen. Basically your copy of windows thinks it's been installed on a second system. If you have the key, use it on your system and that should fix the non-genuine stuff.

Is the card still not working?

okay managed to get windows back in line. but the card is still not working. its atm plugged into my mobo but I have to use integrated graphic card to be able to see anything. if I plug the DVI-D cable to my gpu I get the notorious black screen again

I believe the OP said that link is not his. And you can overclock a Gigabyte Gaming G1 base clock to be higher than what the manufacturer intended.
