Hi. I have this little problem since I installed Windows 10 on my PC several months ago. When my PC is booting with the classic windows 10 splash screen with spinning circle, the screen becomes black for 1 second. It happens the same thing when entering in my account. When it is loading, a black screen appears for 0.5-1 seconds.
I don't have these black screens when I am using my PC or playing some games. It only happens during booting.
I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and reinstalled the nvidia drivers.
I think I should update my bios, but I don't know if it is necessary.
I have a msi h97 PC mate and a gtx 750ti.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your answer. Those black screens don't appear between various loadings. Here is my boot

Bios screen - Windows logo with circle - Black screen for 1 second - Windows logo with circle (the same of before) - User login loading - Black screen - User login loading - Desktop

Its all the loading process though, some parts just don't have cover screens. Both may serve the same purpose though, resetting screen res. How fast does PC boot? if its on an ssd, it should be around 37 seconds so not much time really, HDD could be anything up to 2 minutes. Only worry about it if its like 30 seconds or so on a blank screen or if its after the user logon screen - a sign it could be caused by peripherals but yours is fine.

Depending on your theme colours you can randomly get other colour screens tied in but they only appear after updates.

Hi. I have a WD Caviar Blue 1TB and an i5 4460. The boot takes about 1 minutes. I don't know why it happens only to me.

Your time seems average for that HDD. This guy has same drive, and same blank screen, and almost same time:

Some people report amazing boot times for your hdd but until I see it on video I wouldn't believe them. How fast does it boot after a restart?

if you worried about it, go to: http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=502&lang=en and select downloads and get Data Lifeguard diagnostics for windows and test your drive out.

Hi and thanks for your time. The problem isn't the boot time. The problem are the black screen "flashes" while booting. In the video that you linked I don't see any black screen during the Windows splash screen, but only after that screen.

No two computers will have same boot process so its hard to reproduce the exact black screen combo. i see them too but they last much less time.

so the black screens change brightness? is that what you meant by flashes? or they appear and disappear? you can hit me if you like if I am being dumb :)

Sorry. It is my bad English.
I recorded a video of my pc when it is booting

It is an Acer K222HQLBD. I tried a HP Pavillon x22i and I get the same result.
I use a DVI cable.

So I saw white halo on the windows loading screen as well, under the windows logon. Its obvious on the blank screens, i won't call them black as they aren't.

Have you tried different cables? Have you tried booting up using the on board graphics? need to work out what isn't cause.

its odd it only happens at boot. I wish i knew what started at each stage of windows so i could narrow the number of possible causes.

One bit of advice was to use hdmi, do you have that option? MY old monitor only had dvi & vga, this new one doesn't have either of them now.

have you updated the software on motherboard recently? bios might fix it, it seems to happen mostly before windows starts. you don't get same effect if you set up a screensaver to show a blank screen?

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H97-GAMING-3.html#down-bios look on the driver page too.

I get no signal if I use the on board graphics. I should remove my video card. I already tried differente cables.
I tried Linux Mint with Live Usb and I don't get any black screens.
I don't have a Hdmi cable. I have this problem since I did a clean install of Windows 10 several months ago.
Here is my motherboard bios updates

One of the last bios update's changelog has -Improved VGA compatibility point.

hmm... so its windows then.. or a driver.

You could try start up repair. tap F8 when pc starts, this will load advanced start up
Select troubleshoot
select advanced options
select Start up repair

It will ask for your password during process and fix anything it finds.

i think its such a small problem i wouldn't worry about it unless it starts happening in windows. Its odd, that is for sure. If I ever see a solution i will post in here.

hope bios fixes it. You know how to flash it? should be info in a faq there otherwise

Thanks for your time! Can you give me some info or links, please?

did you watch his video?

I already said its no big deal unless the effect extends into windows itself, but he still wants to know why.

Yes - I watched it.

Windows loading screen and windows desktop are in different resolutions.
When monitor changes resolutions you get that 1/2 second black screen effect.
Totally normal.

@NoNameExe - try changing resolution of your monitor manually and you'll see the same thing.
