Blackberry Questions

Hi, I'm moving to DC and need to establish cellular service. I've
heard that Verizon offers the best voice network in the District, so
I'm leaning towards subscribing with them.

I'm also interested in being able to receive and send email on the go,
as well as view my appointments, contacts, etc. I've never used a
Blackberry before, so I'm a little confused.

1. I can use it for both data & voice, right?
2. Is it worthwhile even if my company doesn't offer blackberry
service? Will the Blackberry poll my existing POP3/IMAP personal
email accounts, or does it only work with a corporate enterprise
server?
3. What functionality do I lose if I "go it alone" and not as a part
of a company's enterprise server? I've heard that if I don't operate
on the enterprise server than my contacts/appointments won't update
automatically, but it should update once it's synced in the cradel.
4. Is there any drawback or hurdle to establishing service if I were
to purchase a used Blackberry on Ebay & ask Verizon to "hook it up"?

Thanks!!!

Kevin

Kevin,

Blackberry is great!!!

It is great to get your email instantly. Only problem is that if you "go it
alone" without an enterprise server you have no way of filtering spam. I
also "go it alone" and receive about 75 pieces of spam per day. On my
primary computer and also on my notebook computer I have installed a great
spam blocker which filters out the vast majority of the spam but the
Blackberry does not have any such program available. I found it to be such
a problem that right now I am seriously considering wheather I want to
continue using the Blackberry or to give it to my business partner to try.
