Can you be more specific as to "everything coming on"?

Is there a very dull glow on the screen, especially around the edges? If you shine a flashlight at the screen, can you see any splash/login screen at all?

Please post make and model of laptop.

power, wan lan, caplock all on but nothing on screen at all. compaq presario. nothing around edges.

Sounds like your display or the inverter for the display have given up. You can purchase new displays, complete with inverter, on the web. Installation is not difficult and there are many good tutorials on how to do this.

If you have a separate monitor, try running from the vga port on the laptop directly to the monitor - if that works, then it is definitely the laptop screen/inverter/ccfl.
