You know where this is going... since WoW is requiring Battle.net conversion now for accounts, down the road I can see WoW UI-modders selling their mods on Battle.net.

Yup - you'll have to PAY to use Deadly Boss Mods, Recount, QuestHelper, Gatherer, Omen Threat Meter, etc...

No more freebies from Curse.com. You'll have to PAY for everything.

[citation][nom]master exon[/nom]People still don't believe Blizzard is Activision's cashcow... Sigh. Also, what happens if person A made popular map X in SC1, but user B remakes it for SC2 and makes money?[/citation]

person A better patent and copyright the crap out of map X and then sue user B and everyone that downloaded it for IP infringement. 😉 😉 That's how the "real world" does things.

Does it say anywhere that there won't still be free maps available? I'm betting there will be, considering the map editor is still included with the game and people are going to need ways to test their own maps. But there will also be premium maps that you can pay for that someone spent a ton of time developing that Blizzard has tested and that lives up to some standard put in place. No doubt there will be a rating system as well so you know which maps are worth it.

So what is all this nonsense about map spam? It's absolute garbage -- fear-mongering bullshit. You people are just looking for a way to crap on this program because you don't like have to pay for content. If you don't want to buy maps, then don't! I'm sure there will still be free maps available. But it's likely the best map makers are going to probably want to sell their maps on battle.net because they put the time in and deserve compensation for their effort.

Such whiny crybabies in this Tom's community... Where's the common sense? It's all loud, nonsensical fear-mongering garbage.

the reason Blizzard's games do so well is BECAUSE of the user generated content. Heck, you get bored on the maps that come w/ the game just as fast as any other game out there. I think its completely unethical and an insult to the community that has made blizzard the company that it is, for them to start charging for the content that the users make. If they want to do that, then HIRE the people making the maps. But, they aren't going to do that. Is anyone else seeing them turning into Apple? Guess thats a good business strat... on the other hand, you have to put out a game more than once every 5yrs. Or is the fact that it comes out that slowly a "feature not a bug?" one you have to be EXTRA for.

I wasnt trying to fearmonger, I was just trying to figure out how they will keep these maps exclusive to the people that pay (will they make the user sign onto bnet to use it?). As you know, this whole game has been about copyright issues and making sure people pay for the game(no more install spawn option 🙁 )

I just dont see how profitable selling user generated content will be when there is going to be tons of free content that people will create.
I would also like to know how much quality control for this user generated content they will have and how free this market place will be.
Blizzard really needs to get some clarity on this marketplace.

Just my thought: I just dont see how a company who gave free multiplayer in the flagship game, has a rock solid income, and hyped a game for over a year is now taking away the backbone of what made this game so anticipated. Yay, wow/wc3 style heros. why buy sc2 when you can buy wc3 and have the same style of play(hero rush)? or maybe they will make hero units an optional thing in multiplayer(crosses fingers).

What are you talking about, starcraft 2 doesn't have heroes in multiplayer. How about you learn about a game before you spew your crap all over the internet. Hrmm?

Jesus Christ.

What I fear blizzard will do is, they will take the most downloaded, and played user created maps, tweak them ever so slightly and then call that map a premium map, revoke the use rights to the original user created map and then make us all shell out a few dollars for it. The user who created the original GETS NOTHING and the EULA will state that in Acient Protossese so he has no legal recourse.

Do you people wear tinfoil hats or something?

OH NOES BIG BAD BLIZZARD IS OUT TO GET US!

As usual, what a crappy headline... "Blizzard is still trying to figure out how to leech money from you wallet via Battle.net."

Why are you guys being so whiney? Battle.net is NEARLY 13 years old, offers FREE online play for all 3 of Blizzard's genre's (except WoW) and you complain? You all are getting all worked up as though NO ONE will make any free maps, and you will have to pay for ANY maps that don't come packaged with the game. Get over it. Blizzard makes GREAT original content games, and would be a shame to see them go down the tubes. They are one of the FEW software companies I will even buy games from.
