[citation][nom]zorky9[/nom]Nobody would really do that if the game forum is used properly like sharing of ideas, troubleshooting help, etc.. not trashtalking, trolling, and bashing other players.[/citation]
Yes cause there aren't sarcastic, evil people who will start problems for no reason in this world. There is no perfect world and def no perfect internet trolls always follow.

I play alot (I emphasize alot) of WoW. I really like the Real ID system. Majority of people I play with have become on a personal level already (calling people by first names) or even sharing cell/aim info. This is just another step in the same direction. I do hope they make a standalone client so I don't have to log in game to contact friends who also might be in game.

This is not Europe.

North American edit: I cant wait for the first story about someone flipping out over a post, tracking that person down and getting killed by a 12g 00 buckshot load to the head while trying to enter the posters home.

my first thought. we've already seen news stories about angry posters/gamers hunting down other people and killing them. using your real name in the open makes that even easier. it would also make it possible for employers to find any "ill-conceived" comment you posted while drunk one night and use against you. i believe a boycott is in order.

Everyone that says they like this should be posting on this forum with their first and last name. I don't see that, maybe one or two, but not all of you.

You may notice that I already use my real name. It's just a personal thing, that I stand behind my questions and statements. I don't think that one should hide behind a pseudonym.
If you're going to post your opinion, you should be willing to take responsibility for it.

Uh oh, looks like people will need to learn sportsman like conduct and show manners when speaking to others! WE MUST BOYCOTT!!

Works great if it is the forum standard and is a requirement for all participants. Puts everyone on a level playing field and folks decide whether they wish to participate.

there needs to be some leeway on the internet.

Exactly, I would do this if it were a forum standard.

jonathan mccabe 😀 my name here is G00fySmiley cause smiley is my real nickname and most people irl don't even know be by jonathan. smiley is always taken when i sign up for stuff and and i'm described as a goofball hence the evolution to goofysmiley

as i have nothing to hide at all i don't care if people have my name and having been on wow forums before i like the idea of real names that way people will be nicer to eachother and realise this isn't just a video game character tis real people you are talkign to and maybe act as such

And there will be - you won't be playing the game with your real name, just posting in the forum with it. Also, I'm not 100% that your name will show in the forums, I've heard that you still use a screen name but that it's connected to your Real ID so that when you're banned, you're banned for good.

LOL I remember when blizzard forum accounts weren't tied to your blizzard online account. I remember one guy pissed me off in diablo 2 because he was using item hacks to view my equipment without interacting with my character and he started dissing my unique executioner's sword saying his was better. He obviously duped his with slightly higher stats.

What I did was went on forums posed as him and made topics saying "msg me for SOJs. 1 SOJ = 10gold"

He then later posted in the same topic saying "it's not me it's not me. please stop messaging me!" LOL. That's how legitimacy prevailed.

Then Blizzard ended my fun by demanding that forum accounts be tied to CD keys. LOL

You figure with them asking for cd-key # verification during the forum account creation process would be enough. But now they want your real names too?

I don't think so. Oh well I had my fun.

So how are they going to get them to give their real name?

A: You can use a fake name when you make your account.
B: You can use game cards rather then a credit card.
C: What about kids that use their parents credit card? We going to have the parents name shown?

This wont stop anything, unless short of WOW requiring you to send a copy of your SSN or birth cert.

[citation][nom]regulas[/nom]So how are the turds at Blizzard goes to fact check your name?[/citation]

Like every other business, you will hand it to them when you pay for the service. Maybe you can get a credit card under Mickey Mouse, unlikely.

This is the most stupid and inane thing I have heard in years, people who buy prepaid cards will still be anonymous while those who choose to pay by Credit card will be identified. So you will have Trolls who can wreak havoc with impunity and people who will be cowering or simply avoiding the forums altogether because they are afraid to stick their head above the parapet. My Son has a unique name, and there are only three people on the net with my name, I shall not be participating in anyway with this sort of forum. I'll keep my Steam account, Blizz can go fly a kite.

Seems great. This way, the forums will result in more positive information than flame dissonance. To those who scream privacy concerns, just don't post! Voila problem solved. Seriously, would you go to a bar with a mexican wrestling mask on and hope to be well received? Hell no. Anonymity has its time and place, but I'm glad serious forums like Blizzard's will not cater to shenanigans. There are plenty of other anon forums to troll upon. It's not an invasion of privacy if you have the choice to refuse.

It would be good if only the administrator/GM/MOD could see your real name and other more critical informations. You can post an an alias but only someone with credencial would know your real name, this way if a troll is banned he can't create another account and thus will be forced to stop spammin/trolling.

I think I would be ok with my first name being used, seeing as my current screen name gives it away, Cliffro = Cliff. But I draw the line there. I'm glad I'm not a WoW addict or even a fan of blizzard games in general.

That being said the admins @ America's Army have my information, heck I even sent them a slightly redacted copy of my DD214.

Instilling a sense of responsibility for the comments you make on the internet....good.

Putting real world identity information in front of a medium that anyone and everyone can see and act upon in whatever manner they deem fit...bad.

I'd suggest making forum names that of your character(s). That way, the only reprocussions felt would be in-game. People would still have some accountability for their actions, but in would only be in the same "world" in which their actions (comments) were made in the first place.
