Dear god, what did blizz do to you guys? why the hate? hell my fiancé (now wife) and i played this for months together while she was away at school. i raid 3 nights a week and then go outside (except now... its cold). Where is this stigma that you have to have no life to play the game coming from?

[citation][nom]csmithson[/nom]Keep this in mind. Your time is yours, and belongs to you. The items in WOW, all items and gold actually BELONG to Blizz. From that perspective, a freind paying you as a person to take the TIME to run them through a dungeon, in a transaction that doesnt actually equate to anything in game other than time spent... is (or should be) legal. Tradeing gold (blizz property) for real-world cash is a no-no.[/citation]
Why should that be the case? Time and money are interchangeable and based on a variable exchange rate. When you go to work, that's exactly what's happening. They give you X dollars for every hour you give them. There's even a well known equation for computing the value of money over time: FV=PV(1+r)^n

As I said in my previous post, there is a population of gamers who have more money than time. They still enjoy the game, but don't have the time to invest earning gold and keeping a regular raiding schedule. Conversely, there are people out there who have loads of time and have no problem earning piles of gold and loot. So, while Blizzard retains ownership of the game and its contents (which is never in question since you can't TAKE the items from them in the first place), what you are really paying for is someone else's time.

Let's put it another way. It's against the rules to buy game gold for real world money. But what if I pay some kid $10/hour to play the game and acquire gold and other items I might need. Then, give them to me when I finally get a chance to play? What if I hire this kid at $10/hour to come over to my house and actually play my character while I'm at work?

Again, food for thought.

In my opinion, it's mostly from those who actually have no life and play games all day. They want to project themselves in an image of the person they want to be. It's the same reason there are so many e-thugs, people wish they were powerful.

Jellico i am loving this debate. My original post was much more elaborite, but im short on time!

Ok, so you and i both agree that the items/money belong to blizz. Here is where we differ. Paying for someones time is one thing, but the goods (virtual or otherwise) are still goods generated from said time are STILL goods. that said, paying someone to play your account (unless that breaks the ToS) is kosher to me.

Now the real question is why would you pay for someone to play your account if you dont have time to use the gear that they generate? IE if you dont have the time to learn the fights for a raid, you cant raid (unless your paying for that too). if you dont have the time to PVP, you wont generate the gear that way. So in essence you would LITERALLY be spending real world money on nothing at all. You get no experiance out of it, no fun.

[citation][nom]Maxor127[/nom]So you pay $15 a month for a game and extra for items?[/citation]
The extra items are a one time fee, not monthly like the game itself

[citation][nom]jellico[/nom]So, then, you feel okay about excluding a portion of the gamer population who would really enjoy playing these games, but don't have the time to keep a regular raiding schedule? These games are only for those who can devote a portion of their lives to it, and if they can't, screw them?[/citation]
I said no such thing. Those who have more money than time have games like Cabal and Hero. Those who have more time than money have(had) games like SWG & WoW. I understand that is a very broad generalization. My point is that is not how the games I like started off but, that is what they are turning into. As far as excluding anyone from anything.....you're putting words in my mouth. Personal choice means that is what I decided for myself. These forums sure are getting "catty"

Jeeeze, how can they justify going after people selling game gold for real cash when they themselves selling game stuff for real money. What a bunch of hypocrite.

greenbuck, im not sure you have read the discussion. All items in WoW are property of blizzard.

Follow me on this one. If you work for symantec, and you produce antiviral signatures, who owns them? Symantec does. you produced them while under their imploy.
You generate in game gold/items on YOUR account playing THEIR game. Its still their game, and everything made in it belongs to them. Remember that and it will help you with your question.

I'm weak. I bought Lil’ K.T. Feel free to laugh at me, but I think it was a 10$ well wasted! I feel kind of cheap though because the Pandaren one gives 5$ to charity while KT does not.

Come to think of it, I think Blizz is the cheap one. Usually, businesses uses tricks like discount and charity on stuff they want to get rid of. This is a digital good, they don't have to make an incentive to buy an item over another! WTH?

So many complaints. they are Cosmetic pets.... and half the money goes to make a wish foundation. Stop crying, in 5 years they have never once done any type of micro transaction that affects gameplay. Maybe you all should stop playing, there would be less nonsense going on in trade chat im sure.
