[citation][nom]csmithson[/nom]Keep this in mind. Your time is yours, and belongs to you. The items in WOW, all items and gold actually BELONG to Blizz. From that perspective, a freind paying you as a person to take the TIME to run them through a dungeon, in a transaction that doesnt actually equate to anything in game other than time spent... is (or should be) legal. Tradeing gold (blizz property) for real-world cash is a no-no.[/citation]
Why should that be the case? Time and money are interchangeable and based on a variable exchange rate. When you go to work, that's exactly what's happening. They give you X dollars for every hour you give them. There's even a well known equation for computing the value of money over time: FV=PV(1+r)^n
As I said in my previous post, there is a population of gamers who have more money than time. They still enjoy the game, but don't have the time to invest earning gold and keeping a regular raiding schedule. Conversely, there are people out there who have loads of time and have no problem earning piles of gold and loot. So, while Blizzard retains ownership of the game and its contents (which is never in question since you can't TAKE the items from them in the first place), what you are really paying for is someone else's time.
Let's put it another way. It's against the rules to buy game gold for real world money. But what if I pay some kid $10/hour to play the game and acquire gold and other items I might need. Then, give them to me when I finally get a chance to play? What if I hire this kid at $10/hour to come over to my house and actually play my character while I'm at work?
Again, food for thought.
