Your telling me that after all these years with WoW, and it's 10 million users connecting all the time they can't manage to make a diablo3 server that cant handle the load?

Excuse me while I laugh.

[citation][nom]dudewitbow[/nom]that 40 second delay defeats the purpose of all those gamers who have ssd/oc gaming cpu/awesome internet configurations to load games faster[/citation]
The delay is for logging into battle.net not loading between char creation and loading into the game. SSDs and fast internet wont be rendered useless.

Its not how many as how fast the servers can handle incoming connections at a time. There just are not enough ports for all the users before they get a connection link.

I never got why Diablo was/is so popular. How can it be compared to Baldur's Gate, Fallout or Planescape Torment? I remember playing it for an hour or so when it came out, Diablo II maybe for 15-20 minutes and it was just too simplistic.

It's a fantasy-themed combat game, not an RPG. The story is only there to give some purpose to the wholesale slaughter. It's the class-based structure and variety of character enhancements that allow for complex strategy and hordes of targets to test against.

I wonder what Brother Laz will come up with for the Median XL sequel.

If there was offline single player mode, this would not need be an issue for those wanting to play by themselves through the PvE storyline. The excuse of "Server needs to control the drops so as to combat duping items to put on the RMAH" has been rendered bogus because of the fact that due to world play, when someone gets items off their home region they can't put them on the RMAH. If they can tag those items to not be able to put on the AH, they could just as easily make it so that the coding of offline, locally controlled items could not be placed on the AH.

This comment just makes me want cry... you need to go back to the console.

"As we’ve unlocked the Diablo 3 installer early, many people will be ready to log in right when the servers go live at midnight, ..."

Has anyone been able to actually install the game? The D3 setup will let me download the files but won't let me INSTALL.

Reading might help: " The installer will actually be unlocked at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14 so that users can begin to install the game"

I hope you're joking. You do not compare Diablo to that trash. Baldur's Gate, seriously? I played Baldur's Gate for several hours and it really is garbage. I get that some people may enjoy the whole "pause game for several minutes for each fight" concept, but I certainly can't enjoy an RPG that spends most of its time paused. Moreover controlling multiple characters never goes well. Take Dungeon Siege 2 for instance. Awesome game, but the fact that you've got to control multiple characters almost singlehandedly ruins it. Those type of games need to take a leaf out of Diablo's book. Think Druid or Necromancer. Sure, you've got a bunch of 'allies' or 'critters' on screen helping you, but you don't directly control them. They work for you, not the other way around.

Please shutup. You have no idea what you are talking about child.

Imo its seems pretty fair. i would rather be able to log on then having an unstable server that crashers and shit on release .... Go for it blizz

Just looking forward to play D3 for hours and hours. for years :)

so instead of 500,000 people trying to log in att 00:00 lunch 500,000 people will log in at 00:40sec. its seems to be useless for the lunch well i get the constant re-logging will not be as bad but if you had say a counter managing system so a couple of hundreds a sec only culd join and it shows you the position you are in not only will people not need to constantly relogg but the servers will manage the load out by it self. is this such a hard problem to do ? servers seem to need 2-3 hours to get stable from the lunch eny how better to let peaple que and get a epic experience right all log on.
well its my thought at least

Amazing journalism here at Tom's. "Please be aware that a delay of up to 40 seconds is possible while the game attempts to connect you.". In what language is possible connection delays translated to enforced like blizzard did that on purpose?

Serious Mr.Kevin, try not to be so biased in your interpretations!

First off, horrible spelling, and I'm going assume you're talking about the launch and not lunch (ham sandwiches and soup.) The purpose of a 40 sec delay is to create a queue for server load balancing because the server can only handle x number of authentication requests per second.

[citation][nom]ct1615[/nom]OMG! a 40 second delay! I may have to possibly retry to log in! this is end of western civilization as we know it! repent people, REPENT!!![/citation]

Right. I'm sure if this was some game you didn't like or from some developer or publisher you hated, all of a sudden a 40 second delay would seem like proof enough of how crap they are.

If you don't consider a 40 sec delay on a public service login process a bad thing, you are lying to yourself.
