Block/Buffer Flipping

In Nvidias option setup, there's Block or Buffer flipping transfer modes.

Q: Which of the above delivers better performance - faster graphics.

last time I heard about block flipping was in ddraw with dx7.

I would think buffer flipping would be faster for pure 3d games.
