So I know there’s lots of threads like this, but it seems each case is a little unique so I thought I’d post mine.
i built up my PC around 6weeks ago, all good, no issues, and then a week ago my games started crashing. Thought nothing of it, except that it was annoying, and put it down to a DX12 issue. However the crashes started getting more frequent, from once a day, to once an hour, and eventually nearly every 2mins. At the peak when the games were crashing every 2mins, I started receiving windows 10 BSODs - never the same one, sometimes memory management, sometimes missing links etc.
I reset windows 10, started reinstalling games and then the crashes started again. I ran all diagnostics, on the memory, on the hard drive, on the motherboard, found no issues (this is important).
I opened up the pc, checked the components, all fine except obviously the PSU hence the thread.
Practically every capacitor in the PSU has gone, big and small, its not pretty.
I’ve got a new different make PSU coming (reverting back to Corsair instead of Kolink), but there’s the 2 questions:
1) Are my other components safe? I know there’s discussions on PSU blown capacitors causing damage elsewhere, but given that all the diagnostics ran said everything was working fine, even up until 5mins before opening up and finding the blown PSU capacitors, and visuals show the other hardware components appearing to be fine, what are people’s thoughts?
2) What caused it? Again I know there’s other threads but I can’t get an answer I’m satisfied with. My PSU was rated 700W, I’m running a setup of around 380-400W consumption, surely that should have been enough? All wires are intact, no bare. All other components as mentioned are intact. My previous PSU in my old setup never blew so I’m obviously a bit cautious about hooking up my new PSU when it arrives if there’s some other underlying issue that I can’t see (but as mentioned all diagnostics said everything is good)
Specs are:
MB - Asus H110M-R
Bios - ver4210
CPU - i5-7500 @ 3.4GHz (runs at 3.8GHz though - don’t know if this means prev owner boosted it?)
CPU fan - Deepcool Gammax 400
GC - PNY GeForce GTX 1660 6GB XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Edition
PSU - KOLINK - Classic Power Series KL-700v2 ATX PSU - 700 W
RAM - Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series DDR4 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz Kit (2133base frequency)
Then just simple Samsung 1TB hard drive and usual CD writer
OS - Windows 10
any help would be appreciated
