So i changed my thermal paste on my cpu today,it was a real mess, had to take out the whole motherboard n everything... i finally finished n put everything back together and now i get bluescreen errors after i play a game for about 10-15 minutes. i get the clock watchdog error and the whea uncorrectable errors. at first i thought it might be cause ive OCd the cpu too much but nothing changed after i lowered the multiplyer. i did notice that there was a teeny tiny smudge of thermal paste on the bottom of the cpu as i was cleaning it with alcohol but i was afraid to get any liquid on it so i wiped it off with my finger. it was really small tho but could That cause the cpu to go nuts like that?
if so,can i clean the bottom of the cpu with alcohol and some tissues or something?
or is that not likely to be the probleem? maybe i wired something wrong, could that be it?

please help 🙁

Cpu 6700k,gpu 980ti,mobo msi z170a,windows 10 professional,cpu cooler coolermaster v8 gts.

If you can play for 10 minutes OK, there is no problem with any shorts due to excess paste. Have you monitored your cpu temps during gaming, at idle, etc??

"WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" is almost always caused by overclocking, is Multiplier only spec you adjusted? Changes in the base FREQUENCY are generally a bad idea

You should clean the CPU contact pins w/ rubbing alcohol or something similar. I had a P4 CPU that I was installing as an "upgrade"(it's an old PC) for someone that I had stored away that had very small bits of thermal compound on the contact pins from the time I put it away. I cleaned them carefully w/o using rubbing alcohol at first. The system booted and was running, but had strange behavior/errors. I removed the CPU again, and cleaned properly w/ rubbing alcohol. After that, it worked fine.

the cpu temps are fine,80 ish, high 70s when under load and under 45 when idle.
its like i cant oc at all anymore after the thermal paste thing. my msi mobo comes with this "oc" mode button in the bios and thats obviously way safer than it needs to be,adding 0,4 GHz to the cpu since i used to run it finne when i manually added 0,7 ghz. but Now i cant even run That! it just keeps crashing.

oh god,im gonna have to take everything apart again? -_-
bloody hell,i din know it was ok to clean from the bottom 😀
Can i also clean the part thats on the motherboards end? the cpu slot has pin thingys too, might have smeared the paste on it a bit perhaps?
But as i said,it was teally just a very little bit of it on the back of it... 😛
