[SOLVED] Bluetooth Issues - Any options left

Hello

PC is an HP Elite Desk 800 G2. I am having an impossible time getting the bluetooth to work or even be discovered ( no bluetooth toggle in settings ) at this point. What i've done so far :

1. Found bluetooth in hidden devices in device manager and attempted to update drivers
2. Updated bios, chipset drivers and installed an updated bluetooth driver as well as a realtek wireless LAN driver
3. After those two things I uninstalled all bluetooth devices from device manager and restarted
4. Bluetooth is no longer even showing up in device manager. It's disappeared even after restart

Does anyone have any options on what I could do to fix this problem. I've run out of options.

Slaps HP, there are 3 different Bluetooth makers for that model... thats just evil.

Do you happen to know which it has?
since you can find it in Device manager, which maker is it? realtek, Intel or Broadcom?

I'm not entirely sure. It would appear the bluetooth is integrated with the Realtek wireless LAN driver? Does that make sense? Is there any other way I could find out?

No, that makes sense. most of the time the BT is on same chip as WIFI.

So its odd its not showing at all.

So the drivers install? as often if its a hardware problem the drivers won't find the hardware. It seems installing latest BT drivers should make it show in device manager

its possible that win 10 is ignoring the BT drivers. If they from 2015 it might not use them.

but they still 4 years old.

You might find its better to buy a new WIFI/BT card as I have seen many people with older WIFI cards have problems recently, and although yours is Bluetooth right now, it is only a matter of time.
I would buy a PCI adapter with one of these labels in its name

• WIFI6
• AX
• AC2100

they all mean same thing, newest standard. Will cost more but should last a fair amount of time. Most should have BT function.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the drivers and tried to install but kept getting an error asking me to enable bluetooth lol. If I could enable bluetooth I wouldn't be here right now. Kind of at a loss on what I can do now

When I click on hidden devices in device manager and pull up the network adapters I can see the realtek one . I would assume that the Realtek one should not be faded out ?

I doubt its a bios setting and I doubt the HP Bios would show it even if it was.

Can you show me some screenshots of what you can see? upload to imgur and show a link here. Might give me some clues?

Have you checked if there is a Hardware switch for the BT / WIFI , my HP has it via Fn + f2 so effectively a keyboard ON/OFF switch , a clue is the message saying that you need to enable it even though it shows in Device Manager. Have a good look at upper keyboard icons and see if you see one similar to a wireless or BT icon. Win 10 might also have an ON/OFF button for BT as well as WIFI in Quick menu bottom rhs of screen .

Another game I have seen on an older HP was BT was disabled on Win 7 ( but WIFI was On ) then after upgrade to a fresh install of Win 10 it would not show or allow turning ON BT , WIFI was fine , I had to go back to Win 7 , ENABLE the BT and revert to Win 10 again ( Luckily it was a dual boot ) I have seen it done by removing WIFI card fitting to another same model PC and turn ON then swap back.

HP wireless assistant from Win 7 can also cause issues if it was set to DISABLE BT before an upgrade / fresh install , Wireless Assistant is not available in Win 10.

I think there is a hardware switch ( or a switchable USB port ) on the BT /WIFI card that once flipped can be hard to unflip via a new OS , not that this is definitely your case as you may not have upgraded to Win 10 but thought I'd make you aware of the issues that can arise.

You could try UNINSTALLING BT and WIFI via Device Manager and tell Win 10 to remove drivers , turn off PC , swap PCI card to another slot and reboot , it may awaken card ? If it does then swap it back if it is in close proximity to other hardware , or just leave it .

Have you tried this driver from HP looks like there were issues with old realtek wifi/BT driver it says from April 2020 in this document and it lists your model range :

The Softpaq from HP above MAY act differently to just a driver pack from MS below, it might be worth unpacking it and having a look , firing the .exe file above will unpack it to the front of C: drive usually to an HP folder with loads of other sp files from HP.

or from Microsoft catalogue , there are a few here , it has 1.7.1021.3000 and it also goes up to 1.8.1027.3000 , however the newer versions may not support your VID / PID on the BT part of the card , but will cause no harm if they do not work , but DO MAKE a SYSTEM RESTORE point before trying drivers above 1.7.1021.3000 as thats as high as HP recommend .
