Hello,
what's more power saving between a wifi mouse and a bluetooth mouse?
I need it for my job so i have to use it every days :)
I mean, i not concerned about the notebook battery because i'm going to use it with the main electricity. I wonder about the battery consumption of the mouse itself :)
Thanks

A wifi (proprietary 2.4 GHz) mouse should have better battery life. I have the old Logitech Performance MX mouse in both wifi and bluetooth variants. The wifi version goes about 2 weeks between charges. The bluetooth version lasts about 3-4 days.

I think a lot of the difference has to do with power save modes when the mouse is not moving. My theory is since Bluetooth is designed for two-way communications, the Bluetooth mouse has to stay "on" a lot more in order to maintain the connection. When I do intensive gaming, both mice last about 1-1.5 days. So if you do a lot of mousing like in games, instead of a lot of typing like in office work, there may not be much difference.

Another difference is that when you wake a laptop from...

Another difference is that when you wake a laptop from sleep, it takes a few seconds for the Bluetooth mouse to start working (it has to reconnect just like reconnecting to a wifi hotspot). It'll also occasionally (rarely) disconnect, which can be really bad in a game. The wifi mouse with dongle connects instantly, and I've never had one disconnect except for a dead battery or if the mouse was too far from the dongle.

Well, my regular everyday mouse for my laptop is a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse, which goes about 2 months on a pair of AA alkalines. I use rechargable AAs, which have lower voltage so they only last about 1 month.

The MX Performance mouse is for my desk, and it's supposed to be recharged every night when you put it in its cradle. That's why it lasts about 1-1.5 days when gaming - they put in only as much battery as was needed for a day of intensive use. Of course being the geek I am, I don't charge it every night. I measure how many days of use I get out of it between charges. I only used that mouse as a reference because I have both the wifi and bluetooth versions.
