I am probably going to build a PC this Christmas. I'm kind of a noob so I am wondering if Bluetooth requires software or hardware. So could I like, install Bluetooth on to my pc? Or get an adapter of some sort?

Solution
Bluetooth needs software and hardware. The hardware sends out and receives the signals and the software recognises the hardware and works with it. Usually though, the software driver will automatically be downloaded when you connect the hardware or you will need to install it from a disk / internet.

Ok some motherboards come with built in bluetooth cards and those that do, usually have wifi built in too.

Otherwise, the simplest solution is to buy a usb bluetooth dongle. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-USB-BT400-3Mbps-Bluetooth-Dongle/dp/B00CM83SC0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1410127485&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+bluetooth This is a pretty high spec one but there are cheaper ones as well.

hope this helps
