Ok, I have an asrock z77 pro3 mobile and a seagate SATA 1TB hard drive. My boot preference in bios was set to my hdd ('SATA [model no]'), with second preference being my DVD drive (also 'SATA [model no]').

I just updated my bios to the latest version, following asrock's 'how to install' instructions and now I keep getting a BSOD when windows 10 tries to load, with the message 'boot device failure'.

I went back into the bios and now on both of these boot options the 'SATA' is changed to 'AHCI'. There is no longer a SATA option.

Windows is now running a diagnostic and attempting repairs, no idea how long that might take or whether or not it will even work.

Can anyone help me?!?

EDIT: so I figured out how to play around with the storage configuration settings to switch between AHCI, IDE and RAID. Apparently aligning all of these options to AHCI and/or enabling SMART fixed the problem.

Well that scared the shit out of me. Lesson learned: don't update your bios when it's working just fine.

Thanks but I just managed to resolve it myself (I've edited the OP). Feeling a bit sheepish now. Appreciate the responses tho! 😉

I was using IDE but I've switched to AHCI. Seems to be working fine.
