Could be a fan issue! If there is a way... go into BIOS and disable the Dell Logo display. Then you would get to see what happens when you first boot your laptop.
It might be anything. Bios updates are usually released for these type of hdd /memory/cpu/graphic card incompatibities. I've checked Dell's support site and there are 9 "criticaly recommended" updates, from A6 (6/29/2010) to A15 (7/24/2011). Just update the last one and if you still have problems, at least you know you've tried it. Did you have these boot problems from the beginning? Or they started lately?
Over years, i had the same problem with different computers. One of them had Bios issues. Another one had hdd problems. Both solved. In the last one, after looking for 1 year for a bug, the graphic card died. So, as I said, you never know.
Check to see if the battery is firmly connected. Check to see if there is lint in the heatsink(where air blows out of). Don't be rediculous check the power adapter jack on the laptop itself make sure your power light does not flicker when pulling and pushing the power adapter cord to and from the input end on the laptop itself. Open and close the lid of the laptop while the computer is in windows notice the angle that the lid is at when the windows screen goes into shut down phase. While opening and closing the lid make sure the screen itself is not flickering. Check the intake vent on the laptop on the bottom of the case there should be a fan located there; make sure there is nothing clogging it.
is there some type of overclocking function on that laptop in the bois a turbo mode on a i3 or a enhanced memory setting; make sure all settings in bois are at default except memory stepping of 7-7-7-24 command rate of 2 or 3 with setting the mhz to 1333mhz or 1600mhz probably 1333mhz if your memory is running lower leave it defualt.
Did you do some type of wierd ssd swap for the drive that originally came in it?
Let's converse about that hard drive for a second your getting a error does it clear up and show working perfect when you do later testing? Is it the drive itself? or is it windows os that has a error in it; if so setting computer at default settings could allow the first phase of the boot process to recognize this error and give you a chance to clear it up just press any key to abort the disk check error sequence to the operating system error check.
If it is the hard drive itself that has the error on it then you may not be able to clear it up unless you have two of the same hard drives hooked up to one system allowing the one hard drive to mimic itself back to the error free state that it was to begin with by using the error free hard drive as a template; but that is a real long shot. More than likely the hard drive is shot. you have to ask yourself if you hook it up to a powersource greater then 110volt at any time or if you tried to use a power adapter off another laptop by accident. Accidental jarring of dropping a laptop without a solid state hard drive can cause real problems. Did you let anyone else use your computer? Did they have a accident with it.
I really would like to help answer your question without suggesting to go into your bois because you feel confident that is not the problem ;but until you give me more info on what condition this computer is in then this will be all that I have to offer you kind sir thank you! for reading this.

Some laptops are just random it could be a problem that could be fixed or it could be something that won't be able to be fixed. Sometimes they are not just the one laptop, but entire laptop models.
Take the hp530 laptop for example. When this laptop was released it was also when windows vista came out. It had a problem with the screen flickering on boot up right before the finish of the boot process. Hp had a bois fix for that and it did not work. I could not ever get that fickering problem to go away. Then windows 7 came out, After I installed that it cleared right up no more problem. So it could just be the O.S.!
