Issue: I turn computer on. Fan lights and motherboard turn on for a second and then flick off. A second later it continues to boot normally. This happens every time I turn on computer.

In his case, he turned it on and got double boot. Exact opposite of you, but Asus none the less. Might offer some hints.

I got word back from Asus. They say that they could duplicate the problem with the PC double booting every time when ErP is set to enable (S4 + S5) and that RD is under...

your startup isn't slow by any means

Have you installed latest chipset drivers, there isn't much you can do to speed up shutdown. Updating bios might help.

I had a computer once that had instant start, but then it had no hdd, no ssd, no nvme, no graphics card, 16kb of ram and used a tape deck for storage. Boot times may not be instant yet but they getting there.

he was trying to guess what type of PC starts in zero time and works off Tape... it was no PC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS-80_Color_Computer

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Just did those i'dont feel like a big difference. It's not a real issue after all all works fine and I boot in 11 seconds. But I would like to know why it's that slow. I suppose it can't be a bios setting right? Maybe an USB peripheral?

Hi,

i have a question about shutdown and reboot which I feel are slow

I don't get why they feels so long :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E89ZsJXn9NE

I'm not sure but feels like it's since i've swapped GPU from a EVGA to an ASUS but i' dont understand how that can be related.

i tried to turn off all the apps running before but it's still slower than it used to be.
Windows fast startup is off

thanks

What do you mean by double boot?

Since getting my new PC, I understand why slow boot times seem a problem. As when it takes the bios 12 seconds or so to pass control to an NVME that can get you to desktop instantly, it can seem a problem. Mind you, the bios on this PC does seem slow... but I digress. I don't get a slow shutdown unless Onedrive is doing something and then Windows thinks I should wait. Or i am doing a restart.

So while the double boot thing might be a problem, its all relative.

My last PC had an ssd and would boot in 40 seconds, and the previous PC had a Velociraptor in the days before ssd were a thing and it took about a minute or so (I can't remember tbh) and before that boot likely took longer still. So while storage has increased in speed, the actual boot process hasn't changed a great deal.

I got word back from Asus. They say that they could duplicate the problem with the PC double booting every time when ErP is set to enable (S4 + S5) and that RD is under analysis.

ERP causes double boots, most of the time when its enabled though.
