Does anyone have experience booting specifically a GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) MOBO W/O a CPU to view version of BIOS?

Solution

Not possible, you need a CPU, and if it didnt come with an updated bios, you need a Sky Lake CPU, the cheapest CPU to update the bios would be a G3900 celeron, if you've already brought the parts including a Kaby Lake CPU, or take it to a PC repair shop and pay them to do it for you.

Thanks. Helps a lot. We did buy the Kaby Lake, so we are now looking at the manufacture date to determine if the MOBO has the BIOS version we need. We intend to breadboard the system and boot up with the Kaby Lake to see if it works. If not, I guess it's off to someone who has a CPU that can get our BIOS flashed.
