Boot up problem

Sometimes it takes half an hour to boot up my machine. I get a recurring
message apologising for inconvenience. It gives options to: start in safe
mode, ditto with command prompt. Mostly it counts down from 30 seconds to
zero before trying to boot again. Help Please!

Hi

The count down is in the boot.ini file and can be altered. What is the
exact error message that you see?

Can't remember exact message - it's a long one! talks about soemtimes
happening after new software or hardware has been installed (which it
hasn't). Another option given is to start in last known configuration, which
I've tried without success. BTW all this error message is white on black as
if in DOS mode!

Hi

Have you tried a System Restore via Safe Mode? If yes, and 'Last Known Good
Configuration' doesn't work, you'll have to try a 'Repair' install of XP.

Does 'Repair' install just mean putting the disk back in as if in a new
install? If so, I'll try that nrxt.
