AMD 1200 266fsb /Win 2000 Pro /MSI K7t Turbo = 1min 45-55sec.

Just have 1 Maxtor hard drive 5400rpm ............ Not complaining here , for I have not had one lockup/freeze/bluescreen since I loaded Win2000 which has been months .
Win 98 on the other hand .......... NO FU*%$#^ COMMENT !!!!

But ............ Does anyone know of ways to speed up the bootup with 2000 ?
All I have starting up is Winamp & the small speaker icon in the systray .

I just leave mine running all the time, I never have to reboot unless i change some drivers or do an install.

defrag sometimes, better get better drive; my GXP60 boots in 40 seconds, SCSI Viking 7200 rpm one was booting 1 minute, so drive makes huge difference (that is what I could see for myself).

Post, we'll do the "search"...

On my setup I had to disable DMA on my HD controller within Win2k. On some VIA chipsets there is issues with DMA. At first my boot-up time was about 2-3 minutes, now it's about 20-30 seconds.

Here's my setup :

Asus K7V (KX133 chipset)
ATA-66 13Gb Quantum Fireball drive

Hope that helps.

>> now it's about 20-30 seconds <<

I think you have slow clock or something, even Win ME takes about 25 seconds on avarage, Win 2k is at least twice as slow on boot... heh

want to speed that bootup time?
disable the services you arent actually using.
that be the mojority of it.

Get startup cop from c/net and will shutdown more of whats running underneath get your latest bios update may simply be a post problem as well, mine used to take almost 5 mins till I got the 2.5 bios for it.
also get a registry optimizer will help tremdously
then defrag it.
you'll notice an improvement.
one more thing, make sure the ata66 is active if your using the boards harddisk controllers.

From 0 to Logon screen 32 seconds if you absolutely want exact numbers. Talking about what I dont know is not my thing.

You can check the run section of your registry under hkey local machine software microsoft windows current version run and delete some of the crap that starts up when winblows starts, also elimate other startup [-peep-] from the startup folder and also go into the control panel admin tools and services. Set some of the services that you may not need to manual and try booting again. Any improvement? Also try running your PC at standard clock rate if you're o'clocking and see if that helps. Get a faster hard drive!!

have you considered the win2000 "hibernate" mode?
with the vastly improved stability rebooting every time is far less important and i just hibernate each time. my bootup takes 45sec -> 1 min, and using hibernate takes at least 15 seconds off that, plus all your apps u were using are open and ready.
