I am on Linux, and I have windows as a dual boot. However, sometimes I want to get into Windows without rebooting the computer. My question is, how do I boot the windows partition inside of Linux for a VM kind of thing?
I don't think it can be done quite like that, you can convert the existing install to a VM, export the virtual hard drive and then boot the virtual machine from the converted image.

I would advise against it. The hardware presented to the OS by the VM is different to the real hardware, so there will be driver problems and possible booting issues. Also, the possibility of corrupting your Windows partition is high.
BTW, it was most unfair that you voted down the previous, helpful answer. I've voted it up to compensate for the unfair downvote.
Also I didn't mean to vote down that answer as it WAS helpful, but I was on my phone and my hand slipped causing me to press the sownvote. But I can't figure out how to undo that vote and select upvote :/
Thanks for your info! I'll just export it to a VM then
