Hello everyone,

I have recently made a bootable USB for Windows 10 and I have tested it on a Windows 7 computer, when I booted up the computer after entering the BIOS and making sure that the USB was number 1 priority and also disabling the HDD as it redirected to booting up in Windows 7. Once I booted up the computer it came up with the annoying error of 'Reboot or select a proper boot device' (or something in those lines). I formatted my USB on a Mac and used Disk Utility. I used the MS-DOS(FAT) format and in the GUID Partition I selected Master Boot Media (or something like that). I also used UNetBootin to make the bootable USB.

Please could you help me find out how to make a bootable USB with the correct format on MAC please.

If your computer uses UEFI firmware, you need to create GPT bootable USB.
If it uses the traditional BIOS, you need to create MBR bootable USB.
Rufus or ISO2Disc makes creating bootable USB much easier. Of course, you can make a bootable USB drive manually but it requires many steps.

If I were to make a bootable usb for a brand new computer with no OS, what would I use? Would it still come up with the same error?

Essentially you use a bootable USB/device when there is no OS on the computer. That's why you need a bootable device, because the computer can't boot from the HDD. If you follow SkyNet's advice, you'll have such a bootable device, in this case containing Windows 10. I'm not a Mac user, but I know Rufus rather well by now, and it is pretty straightforward.

About the MBR/GPT error: Windows will ask for a GPT disk. If it isn't GPT you have to use DiskPart and convert the HDD to GPT.

Cheers,
GreyCatz.

Hi GreyCatz, I am unsure what GPT is but I just have a simple question... I have a SanDisk 240GB with no OS installed in it, I am also a mac user so the only good USB tool I can use is UNetBootin. Would this tool give me the ability to boot into Windows 10, install it to the SSD without having to format the drive? Or would I have to use a tool like rufus.
