Will try to condense this as much as possible. Acer laptop just under 1 yr old. OS windows 8.1. Few weeks ago at my peril, downloaded windows 10. Worked on it few a few hours. Next day, laptop wouldn't boot "no bootable device." Co-incidence? Loaded windows media creation tool onto USB but still couldn't boot so left it a few weeks. I don't know if this would work as am a bit of a novice!
Realising warranty must be nearly up, I had another attempt at weekend. Booted it via USB eventually by changing some info on BIOS but with windows genius tool loaded. This has lots of repair/back up options on it but nothing will work, as if the hard drive isn't there! It can only see X drive and the USB. (Although did email the makers and they said it may not work with windows 10).
Also, when I checked, system says it's running windows 7 whereas Acer data says 8.1, and of course windows 10 is on there somewhere! I wanted to try to back up data as Acer told me they will not be responsible for data loss if goes to repair and if it's a software fault, they will charge me. Yes, stupid to have had laptop for a year and not backed up, I know!
Am not great with all this so I don't think I would be able to take out the drive and connect it elsewhere, like have read on here. To be honest the laptop is rubbish really and was a stopgap, so if it didn't work again, no big deal, but would like to get data off drive. Also, the warranty runs out tomorrow so if I were to send it for repair, would need to do today!
Not really sure what to do, whether to take to shop for data recovery (although it seems nothing is even on there now but that would be the case I assume, if it cannot see the hard drive?) Or just send to Acer today and see what happens.
Thanks for any replies.
