Question Booting to a new drive

Hey, i'm sorry if someone already posted this but I can't find anything that works for me.

So I just bought a new NVMe SSD, and i'm trying to make it my default boot device. I cloned my present C to it (the new one is an E drive), and attempted to boot to it with no luck. It's telling me to reboot and select a proper boot device. Is there any way I could boot to it and make it my default drive without having to format and reinstall windows? Thanks.

did you remove the old C drive after you cloned it?

What motherboard do you have?

No, but I changed the boot device in the bios. also the gigabyte x470 aorus

this is what you should have done to clone it:

Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.

Also, in your bios there is a choice called Windows Boot Manager, it should be top choice in boot order to get into windows.
