Hi guys .i had just bought a new pc with an i5 6400 and a gtx 1060. I was about to buy an i3 bit people recommended that even the cheapest i5 is better than it. So i went with 6400. Today i installed gta 5 and i thought of maxing it out at 900p. Just as i started playing i saw huge dips to 40s and the fps never went at 60. After checking whats happening ,i saw that cpu is being used 100% but gpu is only being used about 50-60%. I honestly didn't expect this big of a bottleneck from an i5 even let it be a 2nd gen. Can someone please help me on this issue???i beg u plzzz....

Solution
Your core i5 clock is only set too 2.7 GHZ, meaning that's as many CPU instructions as each processor in the quad core processor can take. Gran Theft Auto 5 is from what I have noticed very CPU intensive and with such a limited amount of instructions that can be done per clock cycle within the processor, my guess is the limitations of the processor is what is holding you back. If turning off vsync doesn't work then this is probably a hardware issue, and that's what I think it might be now that I looked at the processor a little bit more in detail. I would suggest getting a core i5 that clocks in at about 3.5 GHz minimum.
I would like to also tell u one more thing... since a day or two before i have started notice a delay in my keyboard and mouse input... It's very unusual.. It didn't happen every but now someone's my keyboard doesn't get input instantly but after 10-15s and sometimes my mouse also started lagging.. Don't know why but i feel this has something to do with that bottleneck issue..

I have no mods or trainers... Also the problem is that if i reinstall os i have to reinstall gta 5 which takes about 24 hours since i have a really slow internet... Please tell if there is any help... Your help will be greatly appreciated

I think it requires installation before u can play it... Will your method work 100%?

hey guys.... i thought of something .....can the issue be due to overheating of cpu... because i have only 1 fan on the back side(80mm).....can this cause bottleneck...i also want to mention that my cpu usage is 100%

i tried with vsync off still nothing....also how to enable turbo clock speed.... in the bios there are 2 sections in cpu settings the base is set at 2700mhz and turbo at 3300mhz....do i still have to change anything

and as u guys said... should i sell 6400 and get a 6500?...there is no refund option as i bought from an offline seller and he isnt willing to even exchange at a lower price....so shud i sell this one and get a 6500..... but before that, plz be sure as i dont want to sell 6500 after i buy it

Thanks everyone for helping....i will buy a new processor as u guys said... But i have one more question.. Should i buy a 6500,6600 out wait for zen.. Please help on this matter

But won't 6400's resale value drop by then... Should i sell my cpu and mobo right now and wait for them... What do u recommend

So u mean they will perform the same as skylake... Only less power consumption.... And what about zen... If i buy zen should i sell both my mobo and cpu right now or will zen too have similiar performance to skylake?

Ya, i know that... But what would u have done of u were in my place.... Bought a new skylake cpu or waited for zen ... That's the thing i want to know... would u sacrifice your gaming till it releases???

Depends on the money I would like to spend and how my current system is acting in gaming.

I would want to play now and not in 3months or later. Don´t know when zen is really released (maybe 1/2017) and even some time later available through shops, also the new motherboards with AM4 with chipsets. Cooler will have to be bought new or modified to fit on the new socket.

the 6500 is reasonable priced and I don´t think that Zen will be a quantum break in performance. If it would be, the price will be reasonable too.

it´s the easiest way to go for you at this moment to replace the 6400 with an 6500

Thanks bro... Last question.... Since i have suffered this problem, i never ever want to run into a bottleneck again... So should i buy 6600...??? Is it worth the extra money since no matter what cpu i buy i wont be able to overclock it and i don't want frequency to bother me again..

only one stick of RAM means you are running in single channel, two matching sticks will allow you to run in dual channel which may help performance.
