I obtained parts to build a new system today with the ability to swap in a few parts of old system that went bottoms up after some sort of short or other malfunction that left me unable to boot up after some mishap involving a new case fan.
I wanted to test the old CPU (components will be listed) in the new motherboard and "lay" the old cooler on top of it just to see if the system will boot up. I am not sure if this is a dangerous idea or ,if the old CPU is damaged, if this will damage the new motherboard. I was also going to put in the old ram and HDD to see if they are salvageable.
Any input, insight, or advice is very appreciated.
