brightness not working

Recently on my windows 8 lenovo z500 laptop the brightness setting stopped working.When I go into settings or press the button on my keyboard I can see the meter that shows what the brightness is set to, and I can change it, but the actual brightness is stuck at the dimmest setting. Any help or is it a lost cause?

Update: I found the problem. apparently the windows 8.1 update uninstalled the video driver software and I had to reinstall it.

I am having the same problem. May I ask how you reinstalled the software? I am not very computer savvy.
