Hello friends
this is my first post here so if i posted this on the wrong section i apologise

I just found a service from unknown manufacturer named brlapi, in my system configuration (msconfig).
After a quick search on the internet I am not really satisfied with what I found. Overall the 65% of all users say it is safe. But safe for what?
I don't know what it does.
So I am here to ask the experts if i should keep it or remove it and how to remove it actually.
Thank you in advance

BrlAPI is a service provided by the brltty daemon.

Its purpose is to allow programmers to write applications that take advantage of a braille terminal in order to deliver a blind user suitable information for his/her specific needs.

While an application communicates with the braille terminal, everything brltty sends to the braille terminal in the application's console is ignored, whereas each piece of data coming from the braille terminal is sent to the application, rather than to brltty.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

This might give some context;

to which I'm curious to learn what the specs to your build is. Is it a prebuilt?

Where did you source the installer for your OS, if this is a new install(and that you're working with Windows 10, considering you posted this thread in the Windows 10 section)?

Thank you for your very fast! reply
I own an i3 lenovo notebook, which i bought 3 years ago, and a few days ago i did a full recovery using the recovery from within the windows 10 operating system. Until today I have installed more software but none of them is about braille or any kind of display (to my knowledge). So i guess , to answer to your question, yes it is a prebuild system. I don't have any issues with my OS. I was just trying to find something else and I found this process (brlapi)
Thank you once more.

I can't see any clue its part of windows. Its not on my PC.

I did see a video about disabling it using computer management. In left hand column, open the Services & Applications choice and click Services, find brlapi in the list of services and choose stop.

Another option is use auto runs which will stop it running with windows at startup - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns

I don't know if it is windows app. I also mentioned that I didn't know where to post it.
Thank you for your reply.
I will try wht you suggested. :)
Still I don't know if i can delete it. Probably I will create a system restore point and try to delete it by hand, as i can't find an uninstall file.

I know this is a few months old already, but I thought I should post for anyone looking on how it got on their PC and how to uninstall.

The Braille Service was installed using the Settings -> Apps and Features -> Optional Features. Just click on it to see the option to Uninstall.
