[SOLVED] Broke the Kapton on my laptop CPU and GPU, need advice

The thermal paste I plan to use on both is the MX-5, non-conductive so not a big issue. What I wonder is whether I should replace the Kapton covers. The whole internet says it's useless, other people say it can prevent a short circuit...
 
Solution
Depends on where it is. If there are circuits right below that part, yeah, replace it with something. Kapton isn't that hard to get, but you could also just use some rigid plastic, electrical tape, or a few layers of packing tape. All of these are better than nothing. Kapton has the advantage of being temperature rated and the application will last a long time.
