i noticed my cooler master 212 evo was making strange noises so i ordered a noctua fan, after installing it and putting my cpu/applying thermal paste my computer wont turn on, i took out the cpu and noticed 1 broken pin on the bottom row. everything was working fine yesterday could this be why it wont turn on now? please help me asap 🙁

Solution
Your board is a AM3 board which supports all variants of Phenom II/ Athlon II/ Sempron CPU's but it doesn't support AMD FX cpu's as FX requires AM3+ Boards.
okay i just wanted to get down to the bottom of this issue so your sure its the cpu leading to no power? because if its that i can order a new one. and how do i know the new one will work with my computer it says amd phenom 2 on my old one dont know how many cores though etc.

You don't say what make and model your motherboard is, so difficult to answer. But the motherboard manual, or the manufacturer's web site, will give you this information. Pay particular attention to any BIOS updates required for a particular processor; these need to be applied before the processor is installed.

he is out of town but i have a picture of my motherboard how can i post photos? i am hoping it will work because we alreay ordered it 🙁 and my previous chip was a phenom II also

next to where it said "phenom II ht3.0 am3" on my motherboard there more white text "Dual channel DDR3 dual channel" and FSB2.6 Ghz 140w cpu" does this mean it will work since its 140? i am kind of freaking out now because i payed and ordered that graphics card hoping it would work 🙁 please let me know asap

thank you guys so much, so you are sure this chip should work for my motherboard? the one i linked seems to be right and the chip i am getting model number is HDZ965FBGMBOX so please confirm it will work with http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/870%20Extreme3/

i cannot find it for some reason but rounakr94 said it should be fine and many people online seem like they are saying it will work, also on the box online it says supports phenom II, as well as on amazon when i look at amazon at asrock extreme3 http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-870-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Extreme3/dp/B003L838IE it says CPU: Socket AM3 Support AMD Phenom II X4/X3/X2 (except 920 /940) /Athlon II X4/X3/X2/Sempron processors; Six-Core CPU Ready; Supports Hyper-Transport 3.0 Technology; FSB 2600 MHz (5.2 GT/s) Chipset: AMD 870 & SB850 and mine is 965 so it should work correct? just need a final confirmation i have been up all night literally being uneasy now that i ordered it a while ago 🙁
