I have an IT Works memory stick and the glass /.perspex got broken. When I plug it into the USB port it is dead. I have tried a couple of engineers and a photographic expert but all inform me they cannot retrieve the photos on it because there is no power in the stick so their software won't work. Is all lost?

You can pop thay baby open. To the little board and chip with usb plug is what you have left, examine it for broken pins or a broken transistor, make sure everything is connected to the usb plug itself, if not drop some solder carefully reconnecting the usb plug itself to the board.
You can even completely take off the metal usb from the microchip board and put another one on with solder, just have to be careful and not short them by connecting the solder or pins.

Much like you replace the pcb on a harddrive. Then you can get your photos

Thanks for the suggestion. I've opened it up and everything seems to be connected. Is it u/s becausethere is no power int ? bosschris.

You want us to confirm what the other two people told you, we cannot do that, we are not there. You don't even post a picture, we can only guess.

If you have to ask this question you don't know enough electronics to troubleshoot this thing.

I don't know what kind of engineer you spoke to, but if he knows his electronics, then you are done.
