Broken Thermistor?

I've been using a KT7-RAID for over a month now. When I first got it I would check the temp using either Viahm.exe or the BIOS itself, and I'd get nice 35 C temps idling. Now when I check the temperature, it constantly reads "49 C". If I let my comp idle for an hour, it reads "49 C". If I create a 100-mb RAR file, it's still "49 C". The same thing happens to the system thermistor, only it's stuck at 29 C. I'm absolutely sure that my system isn't that hot. The thermistor behind the CPU makes light contact with the back of the chip, but that's never caused me a problem before. I'm also sure I didn't crush the thermistor. I have the latest bios (12/15/00) Any advice?

One thing to try is if you are not overclocked then OC to 100-150mhz more than stock and check the temp if it does not go up then there is something wrong with it. Or if over clocked go the other way and the temp should go down.

It's a 700 core running at 950, I tried 700 and it was the same temp--49C.
