Hi everyone,

So my Brother HL-2170W printer only prints half a page whenever I print. Basically it won't fully release the paper (half is still inside the machine) BUT I can pull it out and everything I wanted to print is on the page. I then I have to open the front cover and remove the entire drum unit because it appears the next piece of paper is jammed in there. Any idea if I just need a new drum unit? This happens every time even when I release the paper jam so not sure why the paper isn't feeding correctly anymore...

Appreciate the help.

Solution
is it easy and cheap to replace the feed belt? Just not sure how I confirm that is the issue. If it is expensive I'll just recyle the printer
The only maintenance kit listed by Brother, in the manual (https://www.brother-usa.com/-/media...2020/08/17/03/28/pm_hl_2140_2170w_en_2306.pdf), is available from an Amazon seller:

If this doesn't fix the problem then it's time to scrap the printer, as it gets very expensive relative to the cost of a new printer, to repair an old one, just in time alone.

Use a very bright flashlight to inspect the paper path for some scrap of debris that is physically jamming the printer.

Try using other paper types - just few pages to see if those papers also jam.

Check the printer's User Guide/Manual with respect to cleaning the rollers and other similar maintenance requirements.

Do the maintenance per the manual and test all again.

Print the printer status from the main menu. On brother laser printers all these items are consumeables:
Toner (obviously)
Drum (puts toner to paper)
Fuser unit (fuses ink to paper)
Toner collecting bin (collects toner fall of)
Feed unit belt

It's possible your feed unit belt has gone bad. They do have a limited lifetime. Your status report will tell you this.

I'm not sure how to add an attachment here...but I can print the 'printer settings' page, but not sure where on the page it would show me if my feed unit belt (among other things) is bad. I see categories for paper, quality, setup, interface, and print menu on this settings page...

If paper is jamming inside then the feed belt, and likely all feed rollers/tires are worn out. Likely from using very cheap paper, which acts like sandpaper on feed rollers and belts due to the high dust and low moisture content. The rubber parts may also have just gotten hard and slick due to age.

Thanks. Not even sure it is worth paying $30 to fix it.
