Question Brother printer firmware

Can anyone help me with mr Brother MFC J69930DW printer please.

I want to roll back the latest firmware (version Z) to an earlier one so that I can keep using generic cartridges.

I have done a reset on the printer itself, then uninstalled it from my computer and reinstalled it with the original CD with the original firmware. I have also turned off firmware updates on the printer. But it still shows as having firmware version Z. It seems that version Z lurks somewhere in the printer memory.

Is it possible to get rid of firmware version Z, and reinstall with a previous version? Or rollback to a previous version (which is no longer available on the brother website)

Any help will be much appreciated.

I have the original installation discs which I thought I could use to install the original firmware. Would this wotk if I completely remove all traces of the printer from my computer first?

No - Removing the printer software doesn't do anything with regards to downgrading the firmware. It only checks the current firmware version and upgrades it. If you have a new version then it will just say there is nothing to upgrade.
