Hey guys i have been struggling with a BSOD(0x00000116) over the last few days. I have done the research on it and i know its a video card not able to wake up issues. I have tried the below

1. updated to the latest video card drivers including the latest beta drivers
2. Removed the Overclocking i had setup
3. tried disabling the monitor from going to sleep.
4. Ran furmark for 15 mins to test the video card it didn't give any issues.
5. Ran Sfc/scannow

My system config is below
Windows 8.1 Pro
Asus sabertooth 990FX mobo
CM V8-GTS cooler
Amd FX-8350
Gskill 1800mhz 8gb single dim ram
R9 280x video card
700W Corsair Psu
Samsung 250GB EVO SSD

Any suggestions on what else i could try to resolve this issue. I have not made any recent changes to the computer hardware or software.

The monitor is quite old(only has dvi and vga) and has never really given me any problems. The thing is it does not happen all the time when i came home from work the monitor was off and i moved the mouse and it came on. if the monitor was failing wouldnt it happen all the time and not sporadically? I dont seem to have any firmware for the montor. I have recently changed the cable from my video card to my monitor.

Nope, it can just be starting to fail, the power supply in the monitor can start to fluctuate. The various circuits in the monitor can fail over time and at different temperatures. My nice $1400 samsung monitor would fail this way, it had a CPU in it that was surface mounted and the solder joint cracked to one of its pins. It was caused becaue of the new lead free solder samsung used was brittle and tended to crack with repeated heat and cold cycles as the circuit warmed and cooled down. It was out of warranty by 2 months and they refused to even repair it at my expense.
Getting it repaired for $500 with only 90 warranty by a third party did not seem to be a good deal, so I am now running on 3 smaller cheaper monitors.

so im guessing im off to replace my monitor 🙁 Any suggestions looking at my rig on which monitor to get? Currently have a 22" with 2ms response time and 20,000:1 contrast ratio. Going to be using it for gaming. The video card is AMD ATI Radeon 280X.

sorry, i don't tend to look at monitors until I need a upgrade so I can not recommend one.
but look for one that does run cool. if you look at them in a store, run your hand all around them while they are working and feel for warm/ hot spots on the back of the device. Uneven heating and cooling has killed a bunch of my monitors I have had over the years.

Just be sure to look at the warranty period, some companies responded to their high failure rates by reducing the warranty period to 1 year or even less. (some are prorated)

ok i will do that, i did some more checking and when the system hangs if i remote in, the min it logs in the monitor comes on which leads me to believe that it might be an issue with windows and all my hardware is fine.

video graphics driver failed to respond to a directx call. Most likely caused by the graphics overclocking driver
ADDDriver2.sys
or your trixx.sys driver from 2008 ( Sapphire TriXX Tweak Utility)

you might want to find out what this driver is also tmpD495.tmp Sat Jul 26 06:29:37 2008
most of the time drivers that don't have a proper driver file name are just malware.
