I browsed reddit and the microsoft community and it seems this issue is very common in 2018. I remembered my laptop updated 2 days ago ish.

I set my laptop to sleep, and then when I turned it on again, it worked, but it froze on a Chrome page, and then BSOD. 0xc0000185.

I've used the Windows10 Installation Media/USB method, but didn't work. It gave me the "Your PC didn't start correctly. Restart / Advanced options.

On the advanced options,

System Restore gave me an error.

Go back to previous version gave me an error too.

Startup repair didn't work.

I've tried the command prompt and followed the "bootrec /fixMBR bootrec /fixBoot bootrec /rebuildBCD" method, and in the fixBoot part, it gave me access denied. I've used this method to bypass the problem, and it didn't work.

In the middle of trying things, I got a message showing the error in a .txt file (C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt), and it said that I have a corrupt bootres.dll.

Can someone upload a good bootres.dll that I can copy?

Somehow I can't enter safe mode too.

I use ASUS Win10, Intel HD Graphics 630 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, Intel i5-7300HQ, 1 TB HDD, 8 GB RAM.

It's been an endless loop of restarting & BSOD. Literally all the reddit threads having this problem found no solution... Please... anyone...

By the way, there's an option to "Reset your PC", and it has 3 options. What kind of files that the "Keep my files" option save? Only on my Documents? What about the ones on D:? Does it only save the ones on My Documents? Or does it only format Program Files folders?

Solution
Files = library folders. Library folders = Documents, pictures, movies, music (the default folders that come with windows). Settings = logins and desktop. Everything else is removed and it will reinstall win 10.

reset only touches C drive. Any files on another hdd or partition will be ignored

Problem with reset and the SrtTrail.txt thing is often they don't work either. this error often comes from a locked drive and you have tried almost all the fixes.

So you stuck outside windows? is there anything on C you want to rescue?
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this PC, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose command prompt
type notepad and press enter
in notepad, select file>open
Use file...

Use file explorer to copy any files you need to save to USB or hdd

note: easiest answer to this problem given what you have tried already is to fresh install win 10. If you do this you will need to wipe hdd so make sure to backup to a USB or an external hdd.
