BSOD after Windows update

Built the machine last night. Reinstalled windows 7 on the SSD over the last install (deleted both partitions and reinstalled windows)

Installed drivers from the mobo disk. Downloaded graphics driver, updated bios and started getting everything back on my machine. Installed a few games last night and played for a few hours. THe machine was up and running form 5 hours or so no issues.

Before bed last night I installed the necessary updates from windows 7. This morning the machine was on the sign on screen (it was 12x updates last night). After I logged in I opened a browser and was downloading something and the system crashed.

Reboot has caused numerous BSOD's

I have ran memtest86 no errors. unplugged and replugged everything even replacing my sata cables. The processor is running @ 39 degrees. The system will post and get to windows and will run for various amounts of time and then blue screen.

I used system restore but I don't know if I went back far enough as the problem persisted

This seems to be windows update related so a few questions.

1) I'm not opposed to reinstalling windows 7 again. If I do this is it common to not just do any of the updates?

2) Is it better to have the updates and start posting my dump files here? I tried to do that this time but could not find any in "windows mini dump" I even went to folder properties and made sure it is showing me all system files and not hiding anything. I will have to get more into that when I return.

I would try a repair install of Windows 7 to save time (HERE is a good guide). A repair install saves your installed programs and data. You just need to do all the Windows updates over.

For future installs, I would recommend that you do the install, install all latest version drivers, do all Windows updates, then install programs and test or use. I also watch the temps with a temp monitoring program for a while to insure that all is well.

I would also run some hardware tests, particularly MEMTEST before doing much else as it will insure that your memory is running stable -- even a timing error will cause a memtest failure.

Thank you for the response. I have run memtest with no errors. You are saying that the problems could be from installing drivers before the Windows updates?

Are Windows updates in Windows 7 necessary?

No, I am saying to install the drivers and then all of the Windows updates before installing programs. And yes you should install the updates.

Thank you for your responses. I will try the repair first. I put in both of my previous posts that I ran memtest with 0 errors. What other hardware tests do you recommend?

The processor has been running @ 39 degrees consistently ( you mentioned to verify temps )
There is no overclock on the processor or the memory.

It looks like your hardware is fine. I would move on from there. And download all the latest drivers for your hardware from the manufacturer websites, rather than using the ones on the CD.
