I upgraded to an Intel i5-3330 the other day, and installed it fine. However after installing I started to get random and instant restarts. These stopped when I removed a 2GB stick of RAM I had with an 8 GB stick, but now I'm getting a BSOD every so often.

I get this constant error in event viewer unless I'm in safe mode

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor ID: 4

When my PC does BSOD I get the Machine Check Exception (9C)

I boot up after to see this in event viewer

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009c (0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff880009f9b70, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 010616-23134-01.

and this

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I've done a complete re-install of Windows, deleting both partitions in the process, installed .net framework and my graphics drivers. I flashed my BIOS before doing the re-installation. I've also removed things within my PC and tried with old CPU, no different. So my Motherboard or PSU could be damaged, but the crashes and errors don't happen in safe mode so idk.

I've attached two minidumps I found in windows/minidumps I think,

So yea, thinking its hardware but the fact it's not crashing/BSOD and no errors in safe mode says other wise.

I have a memory(?) dump file I could also upload but it's 300MB,

I'd appreciate any input on what this could be, thanks

My Specs are

ASRock H77M Motherboard
Intel i5-3330 6MB cache
EVGA Nvidia GTX 750Ti
HyperX FURY Series 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Corsair CX430 PSU

The dump files, apologise for them being separate, don't have WinRAR yet and wan't to avoid installing anything for the time being.

so you don't think them shipping a plain white box with a cpu in it is not a issue ?? like I was saying for all we know it was someone's rma that had issues and now passed on the them hoping they don't ?? even sent a aftermarket fan along with it ??

then I asked if they put there old cpu in does it do the same ?? if not then the above becomes more suspect and the bios used is 1.60 and the supporting bios is 1.20 so that should be well covered ??

I do see other problems with the various drivers (old ethernet driver from 2009)
but I don't see anything that would cause this bugcheck. It took 4 minutes to bugcheck, and the error would be consistent with a CPU overheating problem. heat sink not seated, paste/ fan not spinning ?

well looking qt the board relesase in 2012 the oldest driver date listed is 2011 so its a driver not for the board installed from asrock or your looking at the default Microsoft one that would correspond with 2009 date ??

if using 7 the latest driver packages from asrock are 2012 .. [now cant say for what is off the motherboards driver disk] but I suggested getting the latest drivers from asrock for the board ...

the first parameter of the bugcheck was zero, so the bugcheck was called by the CPU directly (or something directly attached to the CPU, for example on older CPUs that have a external memory controller that overheats) and normally a driver would not be involved (unless it is a overclocking driver tweaking voltages)

I would have to look at the driver dump again to see what ethernet driver was old. it would not cause this problem, it would just screw up virus scanners and streaming software.

this is way I asked if going back to the old cpu they replaced to see if its as bad now ?/ thing is I got to go back to the non-retail way they recived there cpu in a white box with out cooler and a aftermarket cooler to make up for it ??

come on that's kinda suspect right off the bat

look at the link they claimed it was bought from-- and then get something like they did ?? suspect

but the said it seems to work fine in safe mode so I suggested hunt down a bad driver or program as we were doing ?? that still can lead to a bad chip kinda like a gpu works with out its driver but install the driver and it crashes/ fails ?

so put the old working fine cpu back in to see and if it work with out issue maybe a bad chip??

I don't know to me if I was to get something like that I'd be on the horn with the retailer

anyway I about covered all I could but will check back to see how things go ...

good luck

No pins seem to be broken/bent, everything looked good, the heatsink fits fine, spent the last hour watching 1440p and playing CSGO, no core went above 50degrees Celcius at any time, only mid 40's when on CSGO so I don't think it's an over heating problem. Still getting the cache hierarchy error. I haven't a clue what could be causing it since it must be software related on some level considering it doesn't appear in safe mode. Testing old CPU now.

No Cache Hierarchy error with the Old CPU, no problems what so ever.

Changed to new CPU, BSOD within a minute of boot up.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009c (0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88002fdfb70, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 010716-15646-01.

I've uploaded the rather large DMP file here

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pnif5oh6h232qqu/MEMORY.DMP?dl=0

Now in safe mode on new CPU and no problems, which is swaying from me thinking it's a problem with the CPU itself, but rather an issue with how it's configured in the BIOS or something idk . Regardless if nobody can shine any light then I'm hopefully going to get the CPU replaced and see if that helps.
Thanks everyone for the support thus far

Edit : Tried installing intel management engine in safe mode but I BSOD error code 124, BSOD about a minute when not in safe mode. Currently on older CPU and it won't let me install so I'm calling it being a hardware error, unless someone can quickly shine light on it being anything else. Contacted my vendor some support or a replacement.

At this point, after everything you tried, I would lean toward a problem with the CPU. Why you have no issues in safe mode is puzzling though. Hopefully the vendor will send you a replacement and everything will be fine. Let us know what happens. Good Luck!

(int33a0 looks like intel smart connect)
you can look at http://pcidatabase.com/pci_c_header.php and try to figure out the devices.
or this might just be related to the reboot of the hardware. if you can get your system booted, check windows device manager for any devices that still need drivers.

the last memory dump was a kernel memory dump, it has much more info. It looks like your system was attempting to plug and play install some devices and the install failed.

the wdf01000 log also shows the last error returned of STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST before the bugcheck.
here are the 4 devices that the system says are not set up correctly.
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_1E311849&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_81681849&REV_06\4&2b8260c3&0&00E4
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_1E221849&REV_04\3&11583659&0&FB
ACPI\INT33A0\0

system uptime was 1 min 21 seconds (Did the system reboot on you?)

you might turn off the power management functions in BIOS if you can.
I would also confirm your system has the correct BIOS installed, you might even go back a version.
you might also tell windows to keep your system in high performance mode, if this is a power management problem.

ACPI\INT33A0\0 maybe intel smart connect device - should disable in bios ??

I did not install this on mine ? comes up as unknown device in device manager [-0- issues]

Name: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller

Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_1E311849&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0

Name: Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Host Controller - 1E22

Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_1E221849&REV_04\3&11583659&0&FB

this one that starts with ''PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV '' can find that part and shows to be string from realtek wireless lan ? but the suffix of the rest of the string cant match ??

if any of that helps ??

thing is you got the lates bios [maybe cant hurt to flash back to the first supported bios 1.20 ??] you got the latest drivers in from the asrock site for your board , your old chip works with out issue [ seems these same issues should pop up with it as well ??]

thing comes back to why you thought in good faith from the site you bought a retail 1st quality cpu as it was advertised and you got a cpu in a plain white box and a what ever aftermarket cooler ??

to me that's just too hard to over look after all this your going through , and your old chip works just fine ??
