I've had my gaming laptop for a while now, but it's been crashing multiple times in VR. Wer're talking 300 times since i've taken count on it since last year and now it's not even fun having it. I keep crashing, I can't even enjoy my fun in VR, i'm stumped, and i've punched it multiple times because it's that useless trying to play anything on it anymore. I don't know what else to even do about this anymore. I tried everything and my friends have tried and got nowhere. Everything's updated, did a sfc scan, modified the verifier app to verify some apps, and did other things and i'm still getting nothing. This is what it's always giving. "irql not less or equal", "kmode exception not handled", and "system service exception". I've hit it a few times from rage, but at this point, i'd rather just trash it and give up bothering anymore. I've had it and I need any help that can work. And no, formatting is a last ditch option i've already done and it's still there.

Specs: ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop A15 FA50IV
RAM: 8gb(Had 16 gigs, but took out half of the ram)
Graphics: Nvidia RTX 2060
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H

VR setup: Oculus Rift CV1

Of course. Here you go. It's thrown it to every crash I got and i'm stumped. It's given it to system service exception, kmode exception not handled, and irql not less or equal. If it still fails, let me know. The Winrar I have installed might have screwed with it, but I did send it to a compressed zip folder.

Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

maybe test both sticks, even the one not in right now.

do you have latest Oculus drivers?

one is slightly newer

have you run the MyAsus app to see if you have newest drivers for laptop? I believe it updates drivers.

I'll try this memtest and see what it brings back. And currently I took out one of the ram sticks, so i'm running on 8 gigs at the moment. I'll just do both ram sticks separate so it's easier and I don't think so, no. I've been trying to find new drivers for those, but they stopped supporting them. I've tried , but MyASUS isn't really bringing anything up and i've decided to just ignore it. Everything else is already updated from what I can remember.

I've given this a try, and looks like both ram sticks came back fine? They both passed and I saw no errors except wasting 6 hours checking both of them. Now my HDD'S gone bad. At this point, i'm just gonna trash it and just get a new laptop. This one's getting obsolete and it's just fussy about everything and i'm really just sick of it. Too bad i'm not rich to get a new one.

thats hardly obsolete, just buy a new ssd to run windows on.

Could be drive was the only problem, windows seems storage as memory, I jumped to ram as its most obvious place to start.

I know i'm late to the party, but i'm still crashing with the "ntoskrnl.exe" program causing all the BSOD crash issues. Do I just need to reflash the C drive and just make it reinstall all the windows files?

Now my HDD'S gone bad
what storage does it have?

there are "newer" realtek WiFi drivers on the Asus site but they dated 9th December 21, I wouldn't be surprised to find they same ones.

So to work out if there is a newer realtek driver, I would need to know what chip it has in laptop. That is proving to be difficult
other asus A15 laptops from last year had realtek 8822ce but its latest drivers are from 3 years ago - https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/rtl8821ce-software

crash 3 is GPU drivers
i don't know which one it is... the dump text is actually only mentioning DirectX but almost every time I see this its GPU drivers to blame
I don't know what GPU the VR Chat app would use. it could be AMD or Nvidia
Oct 05 2021amdkmdag.sysAMD Graphics driver
Jan 10 2022nvlddmkm.sysNvidia Graphics Card driver http://www.nvidia.com/

relatively new drivers having errors just makes me wonder if its not corruption on a drive. Its not ram, as it passes that.

The Western Digital is 500gb
old hdd, thats enough reason for it to die. depending on usage case, they can last forever or less if they are boot drive (or ever were).
I haven't had a hdd die since about 2010. it was the boot drive and ran a little too fast for its own good - 10000 rpm - so fast for a hdd but slow compared to ssd.
my storage drive in same PC lasted 8 years, probably still works... not sure where it is. I have more spare hdd than I need. have a 2tb drive in my last PC I could put in this one... but I have 2.72tb free space now so I don't need it.

Try running this on the ssd, it should have tests - https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?lang=en&p=279

Do you mean this?
right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

type SFC /scannow and press enter

once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter

SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

I haven't tried that. Chances are the Windows folder must be corrupt probably. This doesn't delete anything I have in the C drive, does it? Sorry, i'm usually a careful person since I don't wanna risk losing any data or personal files.

System File checker (SFC) checks all Microsoft system files
The 2nd command fixes the files that SFC uses to compare against running files.
Neither touches your information, they only designed to install/fix windows.

if windows folder is corrupt, it will tell you.

Am I looking at this right, or is my laptop lying to me? Whatever it is, I saw a laptop that looks exactly like this one. It's 1300$ and clearly I don't have that kind of money unless I sell a liver or something, but I don't have any other option. A lot of people have tried to help with this issue, but whatever it is, it's being hidden and clearly doesn't wanna be resolved and i'm pretty much "SOL" at this point.

Well to be honest, here's the huge list of all the crashes. You may have to tell me which one to check so I can check through the event viewer. I know one of the recent IRQL not less or equals at2/7/22 at 8:40pm gave 3 different things in the parameter 4.

I meant the crash dumps. All that list tells me is we are missing something big if you had that many crashes in one month

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

I've given this a try, and looks like both ram sticks came back fine? They both passed and I saw no errors except wasting 6 hours checking both of them.
its not a waste of time checking ram, it saves chasing a problem that could have been ram all along. At least we know its not ram.

One of the 4 dumps blamed this driver:
Dec 01 2021rtwlane.sysRealtek PCI-E Wireless LAN NIC NDIS driver https://www.realtek.com/en/
are you still using WIFI? try using Ethernet cable and see if it makes a difference
