Hi everyone. My computer is having back to back BSODs. I start up my computer and as soon as I'm about to log in I get a BSOD, then my computer restarts, then I get to the log in screen, and the cycle repeats.

Specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Aeriosis/saved/#view=BxPbpg

The following are the BSODs that I have encountered:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
CACHE_MANAGER
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
BAD_POOL_CALLER

I have reseated everything, tested each RAM stick, updated my BIOS, checked Memtest, everything came back fine. What do I do?

Update: Managed to log in. I am now getting STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION, STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION on Google Chrome. ThinkorSwim also crashes when open.

New BSOD: UNEXPECTED_KERNAL_MODE_TRAP

Did you install windows with this hardware?

try booting to ubuntu live on USB and have a look if errors are happening there too
I installed windows with this hardware. I tried to reset and remove all files but that also failed. I also tried to boot it from USB repair windows and it gave me another BSOD before I could finish doing much.

I’m taking it to the Geek Squad at my local Best Buy to nuke it.

First off, you have an i9-4900K and I assume that you know there are issues with this particular CPU (and the i9-13900K)?

I agree with @helpstar in that the dumps all look very much like bad RAM is the root cause. I wouldn't recommend running Memtest86 on 64GB of RAM, it will takes forever to complete. Instead I suggest you remove two sticks of RAM and run on 32GB for a few days. Chgeck your motherboard manual to ensure the remaining sticks are in the correct slots. Then swap those two sticks with the other two sticks for a few days. You'll soon see whether one pair BSODs and the other pair doesn't.
  • Did you buy this RAM as a pack of 4 x 16GB sticks or as individual sticks?
  • Your RAM is not on the QVL for that motherboard, and whilst that doesn't mean it won't work it does mean it's not been validated - so when you're having BSODs that look very strongly to be RAM related then that's a concern.

Update: The Geek Squad thinks it’s a Motherboard problem. They were receiving VGA codes and RAM codes with their fancy diagnostic tools and said that those don’t happen at the same time usually. I will be back with more updates.

The Geek Squad believe that it’s a compatibility issue with the 14900k and the latest z790 motherboards because the manufacturers will overclock the CPU automatically.

I’m not sure if this is only because of ASUS doing this since I’ve only ever tested it and ASUS board, but I feel dubious about this solution as my computer was working before this all went down, but I am seeing online that there are a lot of problems for people with the z790 boards with the 14900k. I’ll come back later with a solution hopefully

Check socket for bent pins.

Also if you haven't already I would suggest this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermalrig...2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

These CPUs run hot and can cause bending and twisting of the substrate this means pins aren't making contact.

The bracket will straighten up the CPU.

I have used this method on 3 pcs all had some weird ass issues the vanished after I put this on.

Also on bios update to latest firmware and choose intels presets as Asus and other vendors are occing the chips out of spec.

Socket is fine. I’m currently having them try out an i7 13700k just to see if it will work. I’ll have to try out the CPU bracket when I get everything together.

The guy at Geek Squad tried some stuff in the bios, the intel presets being one of them, still no luck.

After I get my computer back, I have a MSI mobo that’s advertised to work with the 14900k coming in (I’m tired of ASUS’s stupid red bios) which I will try my hand at using the bracket on with my 14900k. If it still doesn’t work then I’ll RMA the CPU and use the 13700k in the meantime (if that works).
