Hi folks

I'm new to the site and I have a question about problems I am having with a set up I inherited from a friend.

System Model Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Graphics AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Boot Disk Model SanDisk SD8SBAT 128GB
NVME Model WD_BLACK SN7100 1TB

When I inherited the system it just had the 256GB SSD in it and 32GB of RAM (2 x 16)

After installing the NVME the only DIMM slots that work are A2 and B2 and withing that A2 is showing the correct module B2 is showing that there is an unknown DIMM of 0GB and 2000 MHz (when I have set it to see 2133MHs). Windows obviously only sees 16GB. The problem is that this causes applications to have memory errors which crash me to desktop or blue screen the machine.

After reading about NVME compatibility issues with this board I removed the NVME does it does not fix the issue. (this make/model of NVME was researched as one that supposedly works with this MB as other have reported issues with even getting the board to recognize an installation with other makes)

The system will not boot with any other combination of modules or a single DIMM. Both DIMMS are working as swapping them in A2/B2 still shows the same.

I am running the last available bios update for this board. Can anyone point me in the direction I should be investigating please?

NVMe should have nothing to do with the memory.

I would probably re-seat the CPU, which means removing the CPU cooler and re-doing the thermal paste.

My guess would be that you have put pressure on the CPU cooler during your manipulations of the memory and dislodged the CPU a little, that can make it lose contact with the pins that connect to the memory slots.
