Hi, my laptop was working perfectly until a recent reboot. I'm not sure if there was a system update that was applied at the time as I realised I hadn't rebooted for a while, so I manually closed all the apps and then went to reboot and walked out the room to grab a cup of coffee.

Now it gets a BSOD 🙁 reboot every time. The only error I can see is "System Service Exception".

I've had a look at the dump file and it says "caused by NTOSKRNL.exe" (every time).

It will boot okay into SafeMode with/without networking, so I've done all the backups I need, but as a matter of principle I want to get this working WITHOUT a rebuild!

It will BSOD on most of the other boot options (e.g. VGA / debugging / logged, etc).

I've tried running a CHKDSK /f and /r (from the pre-boot Troubleshooting Command prompt).
edit: and also triggered from SafeMode - where it then runs the chkdsk during the reboot.

There don't appear to be any system restore points or rollback options in the Troubleshooting options.

No hardware changes for 9 months.

Lenoxo X230, i7-3520M, 2x8Gb Crucial DDR3, Samsung 850 PRO 256Gb SSD. No other peripherals at all while I debug this.

Win10 ver 10.0.16299.192

Any help, suggestions or ideas would really be appreciated!!

Okay... I've made some progress, but still not solved...

Lenovo BIOS boot tools (F12 on reboot, tab to Diagnostic Tools and run the storage and memory diagnostics test).

It's basically a built-in, lightweight version of MemTest86+ (for anybody wanting to do this type of test on a setup that doesn't have built in memory test tools).

I seem to be getting a memory error (UME001001-WNMV8N).

I've tried running:
both modules: fail
module #1: pass
module #2: fail
module #2, but in the slot for module #1: fail

I've now tried running with just the single, working 8Gb SO-DIMM, but I'm still getting the same crash.

I'll dig out MemTest86 and try some more thorough stability test and I'll try a pair of 4Gb SO-DIMM's that I've got in another one of these laptops at home.
