Hello,

There have been a lot of problems happening recently to my PC. I am not sure if all of them are related or not. I will try and provide as much detail as I can and in the order that I started happening.

1. I noticed that one of the updates is failing on my PC "2024-04 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5036979)" It stops at 44 % then gives the message We couldn't install this update, but you can try again.

2. If I try to switch my output for my audio using the ^ arrow in task windows at the bottom right and left-click the speaker then click the other ^ arrow and select any of the outputs my output disappears for 2 or 3 minutes before it is back and I can hear again. It usually gives an error saying "The audio service is turned off."

3. I am getting random tabs crashing and having to restore them very often.

4. BSOD: I got one today for PFN_LIST_CORRUPT , one on April 28th for KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and another on April first for MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT:

5. Also when I tried SFC /scannow I got this error

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 15% complete.

Any help is much appreciated.

I answered this out of order.

this might help 1 & 5
right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

2 audio is a pain.

random, no driver page on Asus website - https://rog.asus.com/au/motherboard...air-viii-hero-wi-fi-model/helpdesk_knowledge/
Guess they expect you to use Armory Crate... See if it offers any new drivers for Audio.

Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

obviously it uses Realtek Audio as everyone does, but be nice to see what drivers you have. I guess I could ask you to look in device manager
they called it ROG SupremeFX8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC on their website, why does Asus have to rename everything?

3 do you mean in a browser?
download Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) from under the windows header here
https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=584

4 - Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Thank you for your response!

1. When I run the first command I get this:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
Repair-WindowsImage : The specified buffer contains ill-formed data.
At line:1 char:1
+ Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Repair-WindowsImage], COMException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Dism.Commands.RepairWindowsImageCommand

The second command still fails I wanted to just test and see:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> SFC /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 15% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

2.
I ran updates through Armory Crate, and the same problem happened. I noticed that if I left-click the speaker and then select the output device wait like 15 seconds right-click the speaker and select sound it asks me to turn on the audio service and then it starts working. For some reason when switching between outputs turns it off and then I have to turn it on.

I ran this command: wmic sounddev list full
list of devices I have under Sound video and game controllers.

I noticed this doesn't cover the Audio Input and outputs.

Benq monitors DONT use for output sound
G27QC monitor DONT use for output sound
headset Hyper x I use the headset to switch between speakers
headset microphone Hyper x I use the headset to switch between speakers
microphone realtek r audio
microphone (sonic studio virtual mixer) IDK what it is
Realtek digital output( Realtek (r) audio) IDK what it is
speakers Realtek r audio This is what I switch between ( have Logitech speakers)
speakers (Sonic studio virtual mixer) IDK what it is

In services Windows audio and Windows audio endpoint builder in the recovery tab, I made it restart after 0 minutes(it was 1 minute). Then when I switch between speakers and headset I need to restart the web browser tab to get the sound to work, I haven't tried it on applications like Discord.

I did not see ROG SupremeFX8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC. They want to rename it so they can be "different" XD

3. Yes, in the browser. I installed it let's see if this fixes the problem.

4. Here is the recent dumb. I haven't had any BSOD crashes recently.

Thanks for your help.
