Hi folks,
I have a 10yr old PC that works just fine with Windows 7. The problem is, I also run Pro Tools 10, which was fine when the motherboard was working to full capacity, ie 8GB RAM (2x 4GB max. memory slots). However, now, the PC system only works with one memory slot filled, ie 4GB RAM, and Pro Tools struggles. I'm sure it is a faulty slot. I get frequent BSODs if I use both slots or just one particular slot. I don't get BSODs if I use the other memory slot. It doesn't matter if I swap around RAM. I get the same the same result.
My question: is there any cheap way to fix the memory slot? All I need is to get the PC back up to 8GB RAM and I'm fine. If I upgrade my PC, it will cost much more and I will have to use a later version of Windows, which my Pro Tools isn't compatible with, and if I then upgrade Pro Tools, I shall have to sign up to Avid's greedy policy of monthly subscriptions.
Any help or advice would be appreciated regarding fixing memory slots and/or replacing motherboards that won't have huge knock-on spiralling costs.
Thank you.
Scot
