[SOLVED] BSODs, and error code 0x8007025D ?

Specs
Mobo: MSI Mag Z590 Tomahawk WiFi
CPU: i7-11700K (air cooled)
GPU: RX 6750 XT
RAM: 2 x 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4
PSU: 850w

I'm having massive persistent issues with my machine. Started with tabs crashing in brave (chrome) randomly, led onto random BSOD's. usual error messages:

status_access _violation
status_stack_buffer_overflow

Eventually went to do a clean reinstall of windows and got the following error code:

0x8007025D

That stopped me from completing the install.

I ran memtest 86x once and got an all clear on my ram.

I ran into this post from 2016 which seems somewhat similar to my issue, are the solutions suggest here still kosher in 2024?

Corsair Airflow 4000D, Cooler, hyper 212. BSOD's come even when computer is at low load, so 35c or so.

Latest bios.

Corsair RM Series RM850 850W Modular 80+ Gold PSU. 2 years old, entire machine was put together in July 2022.

Crucial P5 Plus, 1TB.

I also have a 1 TB Samsung SSD, and an old 1 TB HDD, but problems persist even with those drives disconnected (windows installation is not on them).

When I was trying to troubleshoot the problem, I noticed some oily 'wetness' on my SSD*, but apparently that is normal?

*no liquid has gone anywhere near the inside of my case.

From a thermal pad? That's normal. The same kind of leeching happens on motherboard VRM's over time.

You should consider running reputable third-party hard drive testing/diagnostic software over it. Possible damaged hdd ??. Do you have another hard drive to temporarily try to install windows to, from the usb stick?. Alternatively, plug the drive into another port and try.

Note that I am currently only running 1 stick of my RAM since I am trying to see test each stick individually for problems.

Disconnect all drives except the one you intend to install the OS onto. How did you fabricate your installer?

Try and bring up Disk Part to see if the drive you intend to install the OS on is MBR or GPT;

That's slot 2 and 4? I am new at this... Is there a specific version of memtest that I should use? How many passes should I run?

Not sure what you mean by 'fabricate'. I downloaded it on another computer (laptop) and put it on a USB stick. I assume you're talking about drive format? You're gonna have to walk me through this.

Can I check this from within windows? I.e. in disk management? Or do I need to run the installer again?

Just to clarify I am currently typing/posting this from the machine that's having issues. Windows install went off... seemingly ok. But the same thing happened (seemingly ok at first) the last time, until it didn't.

Error code: (HRESULT) 0x8007025d (2147943005) - The specified buffer contains ill-formed data.

normally I would be looking for a driver corrupting another drivers data.
or a sound driver that is responding to the same DMA channel of another driver.

if you provide a memory dump I might be able to see if it is a problem I have already come across.

normal fixes for this problem is to update the bios (done) then the various motherboard drivers, then the firmware for special devices on your machine, like a mouse. Note: there was a bug in a old version of realtek hd audio driver where it would corrupt other sound drivers.

So the mystery is solved. Thankfully it doesn't seem to be the MB DIMM port/s. I tested duel sticks, and both sticks in slot 2 independently of each other. Only one was throwing up the error message.

So after this entire weeks long saga it was... just the RAM as I originally suspected.

Lessons learned:

A) Always run memtest86 twice (8 passes) as 4 may not catch the errors.

B) Trust Tom's hardware users more than your local tech repair store. Can't believe those idiots told me that the RAM was fine and that GPU was causing issues.

PC currently running on the one 'good' stick and so far 0 blue screens in the last 24 hours. Seems the dodgy ram stick had caused a corrupted windows installation that was causing the blue screens.

New RAM is already on it's way. Thankyou everyone who helped me here, especially Lutfij, you're a mensch for helping me as you did. Please keep up the great work.

I do 10 passes, and they take a long while to finish but it checks off one thing off the list of things to do in order to troubleshoot.

I did nothing, kind sir, . If you must thank anyone, thank the community we have here, please! With that being said, I'm glad you were able to narrow down the ram. I thought you went through the entire gamut of test with memtest. Be sure to give us a follow up on this thread for closure, for those out there in the same boat as you were in.

Just one more point, slots are labelled on the motherboard PCB next to the ram slots or on the motherboard manual. Has been that way since 2019 or slightly prior.

Just to be clear since you said you're on one stick of ram on your platform, are you getting a replacement ram kit or a new stick of ram with the same specs? If the latter, you will need to compare the PCB versions, since Corsair is the only brand that sources ram IC's from multiple vendors. Mixing and matching sticks with differing IC's can cause instability.

If the latter, you will need to compare the PCB versions, since Corsair is the only brand that sources ram IC's from multiple vendors. Mixing and matching sticks with differing IC's can cause instability.

Full replacement kit, while my old kit is sent off under warranty. DW I know well enough not to mix + match.
