TLDR: getting random BSODs with various modules and error codes, also crashing and weird behavior of various apps.

Hi, my PC started experiencing BSODs several months ago, they keep happening 1-2 times a day, sometimes more often, sometimes less, at random times, not necessarily when it’s loaded, often when completely idle. First I suspected GPU (since some games crashed with visual artifacts), so I replaced it with brand new one, but that didn’t help. Then I noticed that many apps started throwing random undocumented errors and/or crashing, for example, Firefox tabs keep randomly crashing (even with no add-ins enabled).

This strongly suggested that I have a bad RAM stick, even though Memtest86 didn’t show anything. Nevertheless, I replaced all 4 RAM sticks with brand new ones, yet the issue still remains. I also ran SSD and hard drive tests, but those didn’t show up anything. I even reinstalled Windows (clean reinstall), but to no avail. Most BSODs refer to ntoskrnl.exe, sometimes Ntfs.sys, sometimes others. Here are several dumps from these BSODs: https://ufile.io/f/j6snh

I am not sure what to suspect, temps are fine, BSODs happen at random, even without any load, so it shouldn’t be PSU, the behavior points to RAM but I already replaced it, so I’m really puzzled.

Attempted:

  • Clean reinstalling OS
  • Replacing GPU
  • Replacing all RAM sticks
  • Checking SSD and hard drive
  • Stress-testing CPU and GPU (no BSODs during tests)

Current PC specs:
Motherboard: Intel B660
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade 128GB 3600 DDR4 CL16 DIMM (4 x 32GB)
PSU: Deepcool PM850D 80 PLUS GOLD 850 W
Storage:
ADATA SU650
ST200DM008-2UB102
WD_Black SN770 2TB

No software or hardware changes before BSODs started happening. These BSODs are increasing in frequency, getting them more and more over time. Sometiems they even happen during Windows boot-up, before it even gets to the login screen. Please let me know if I forgot some crucial info.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar issue, by any chance is your system drive the ADATA one? For me random BSOD with different codes kept coming up, I tried memtest, reinstalling windows, and reseating everyting, NVMe health showed good too (the drive was a year old), after a point I cloned windows to another nvme and the issue never came again.
Maybe that may be a cause for your PC crashing

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I even reinstalled Windows (clean reinstall), to no avail.
Did you recreate the bootable USB installer for the OS to rule out a corruption? Did you install the OS in offline mode?

Motherboard: Intel b660
That is the chipset and the manufacturer of the chipset. What is the make and model of your motherboard? What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard? How are you cooling the processor?

Ram: Kingston Fury Renegade 128GB 3600 DDR4 CL16 DIMM (4 sticks 32GB each)
Work with two sticks of ram, populating slots A2 and B2. See if the issue persists.

PSU: Deepcool PM850D 80 PLUS GOLD 850 W
How old is the PSU?

I went through your .dmp files with WinDBG;
pCloud.exe
^ can you uninstall that and see if the instability is culled?

No, my OS is installed in the SN770 drive. Adata is currently formatted and doesn't have any partitions, I don't use it.

1. Yes, I did install OS from bootable USB in the first place. I reinstalled OS multiple times (fresh install with drive formatting), so I'm pretty sure it's not OS corruption. And yes, I did install OS in offline mode.

2. The MB is Gigabyte Intel B660 DS3H, rev. 1.0. BIOS version is "American Megatrends International, LLC. F4, 2022-08-08". Processor is cooled with MSI MAG CORELIQUID 240R V2 Liquid CPU Cooler. But I doubt it's anything to do with temperatures, because BSODs happen even when PC is completely idle and CPU temps are <60°C.

3. Already tried it. Like I said, I had 2 RAM sticks previously, and had the same BSOD issues, replaced them with these 4 new sticks (but also tried just 2), and the issue didn't change at all.

4. PSU is 2.5 years old right now.

5. When I reinstalled OS last time, I didn't install pCloud yet, and already experienced BSODs again, so I'm pretty sure that's not it. Also, I've had several BSODs during PC restart, during Windows boot up, before I even got to the login screen, so I'm pretty sure it's not software related.

This board;

? If so, you have BIOS updates pending, of which also encompasses the (band aid)fix for the degradation issue plaguing 13th and 14th Gen processor. Please pay attention to the notes before attempting a BIOS update.

Do that and see if the issues are alleviated.

That being said, not the board I'd have picked when pairing with a 13th Gen i9 processor. Would've looked into a beefier VRM designed motherboard and a Z series chipset.

Thank you, and yes, that's the board I have. I just finished flashing to F32. I will wait now and see if anything changes. What MB would you have chosen instead of this one, with the components that I have? Any specific suggestions?
