Question BSODs and random restarts when under load ?

When running games or resource-intensive applications my system will just restart. (My screen will go black and my system will restart). Sometimes though the computer will give a BSOD Message, (Minidumps attached) The weird thing is sometimes it gives different BSODs errors every time.

(Upgraded the ram to 16gb and added a M.2 SSD a year ago)
HP serial number: 4CE1050FF9

Win 11 dumps: https://files.catbox.moe/f23y3i.zip
Win 10 dumps (OS i'm on currently): https://files.catbox.moe/eul3yx.zip

At first I believed this to be an issue with the RAM as the minidumps indicated it, although running Memtest86 and Microsoft memory diagnostic tools it showed no errors, and also this memory is quite new and put into my system a year ago.

I also thought it would be a temperature issue but all temperatures read was completely fine whilst running games and such. (CPU temp never went above 90 and GPU temp never went above 90)

I also made sure all my windows drivers are up to date, and also reinstalled my GPU drivers using DDU, the issue still persisted.

Some important things to note:

  • When reinstalling Windows the install would just crash out when it was on the "Installing features" section. It took me a couple of tries for it to install, this also happens when i just click on buttons in the windows installer, sort of just like its too performance heavy and freezing, I managed to get windows installed though one time and the issue persisted.
  • Usually the issue only happens when my system is under load.
  • When memory integrity is enabled the computer is slow to boot and sometimes doesn't boot at all and gives a BSOD.
  • When I enable Power Saver mode I noticed that my computer would just crash immediately sometimes
Things I've tried

  • Resetting Windows normally
  • Reinstalling Windows 11 via USB
  • Reinstalling Windows 10 via USB
  • Running Memtest86 to check for memory errors (there was no errors)
  • Reinstalling GPU drivers with DDU
  • Installing HP chipset drivers from the website
  • Replacing peripherals to check if one of my devices was an issue
  • Running HP System diagnostic
  • Using OCCT To run the power test (The issue was replicable and crashed when running the power test sometimes, (sometimes it doesn't) )
  • Using Cinebench to stress test my CPU (Most times my computer would BSOD or restart)
  • Using different plug sockets to see if my cable isn't generating enough power.
  • Running different hard drive / SSD tests like sea tools and chkdsk commands.
  • Trying each stick of ram seperately to see if its the ram
Obviously this does sound like a PSU problem but I replaced it with a 500 watt PSU and it still happens 😭
Any idea on what to do here?

Since you on 10 now, I didn't look at win 11 dumps as well, any advice for them is redundant since you on a new install now.

process named is victim but can offer clues. DWM.exe = Windows desktop manager, it mainly talks to GPU drivers
MsMpEng = Windows Defender. I would think the cause of it could be your network drivers
You can get those off HP or

did you run this after install to make sure you had newest drivers?

bottom one caused by Bluetooth, looks like you need newer drivers. The HP Upgrade Assistant would have helped.

Do you have any newer ones? When did you reinstall?

I just did all the drivers in the HP assistant and saddly it is still happening.

I reinstalled this Windows around 2 months ago, and yes I have new ones, I'm not sure if windows deletes dumps automatically as I swear I had more but hopefully this will do.

https://files.catbox.moe/lvjws1.zip
But I do think that this is a Hardware issue due to the Windows installer freezing and restarting my PC, unless it's my USB.

Also something I forgot to mention is that when I enable power saver mode sometimes my PC would instantly restart (Screen freeze and then restart), maybe a motherboard issue? at this point not sure at all.

The nvlddmkm.sys file is a NVIDIA graphics card driver. There are a few things you can do to fix this problem. First off, try a full uninstall using DDU in Safe Mode then re-install the driver (more information). Or try getting the latest version of the driver. Or try one of the 3 most recent drivers released by NVIDIA. Drivers can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/ or you can allow Windows Update to download the driver for you, which might be a older/better version.

hmm, on crash 1 you had drivers from January
Jan 30 2024nvlddmkm.sysNvidia Graphics Card driver http://www.nvidia.com/

Earlier in day you had drivers from
May 14 2024nvlddmkm.sysNvidia Graphics Card driver http://www.nvidia.com/
And those are same drivers that caused Crash 3.

last 2 crashes could be the Nvidia drivers from crash 3 still since it was still on pc.

Where did you get the January drivers from?

Around a month ago I reinstalled the GPU drivers using DDU, so I don't think it would be drivers. I'm going to attempt another clean reinstall of windows soon.

But as I said when I'm in the Windows installer sometimes it crashes and system reboots just like what happens sometimes. super wierd

The GPU driver crashed 4 days ago, and anytime it says
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
it means that is the cause.

So I would run DDU again and grab latest driver from Nvidia, unless that is where you got the may ones from.
Was HP where you got the January drivers from?

Why are you on an old version of windows 10? Its showing as 19041, latest version of win 10 is 19045
19041 - Win 10 2204
19045 - WIn 10 22H2

BUILD_VERSION: 10.0.19041.4291 (WinBuild.160101.0800)
quickest way to update would be make a win 10 installer usb using the media creation tool (2nd link here) - https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
once its made, put it in PC and go to file exploder and navigate to USB drive, and run setup.exe. Will update PC to latest version of 10. Might help.

When reinstalling Windows the install would just crash out when it was on the "Installing features" section. It took me a couple of tries for it to install, this also happens when i just click on buttons in the windows installer, sort of just like its too performance heavy and freezing, I managed to get windows installed though one time and the issue persisted.
Could be CPU. During install its running off the USB drive, so it shouldn't crash as such if you writing to the drive.
Using Cinebench to stress test my CPU (Most times my computer would BSOD or restart)
I assume you run the CPU only test for this

no real tests for AMD CPU. Unlike Intel. Does OCCT test CPU?

wonder if newer version of chipset drivers for that, they are 4 years old. Trying to work out what it would use.
Seems its B550A
https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c06955243

It doesn't help, AMD don't supply drivers for it, HP would...
B550A actually supports newer CPU but HP haven't updated BIOS to support them.

When I use the OCCT stress test on the CPU I actually get BSODs so could be a CPU issue.

But HP has a built in CPU test tool in BIOS which it passed so not entirely sure. Apparently it could be the memory controller on the CPU.

Honestly this issue is so annoying lol, going to attempt another clean isntall of windows, fully reinstall GPU drivers using DDU, and then if it keeps crashing I think it's a Motherboard or CPU issue (praying its not the mobo)

As I said again, sometimes my system restarts (screen freeze and then restarts, just like what it did in the Windows installer) when I enable power saver mode which is super wierd, and obviously when enabling memory integrity the my computer barely boots up and sometimes gives me a BSOD the spinning circle freezes and it takes like 7 minutes to get into windows.

Do you think updating the BIOS is worth it if my system is unstable? my PC never used to be like this so I don't think it would help.

I don't know how good the HP CPU test is or what it does.
what cooling has it got on CPU?

There is only one real test for AMD CPU but it runs them really hot. So if cooling isn't great I wouldn't do it

BIOS update could fix the power issues, but a BIOS update running through windows on a unstable system might not be a smart idea. I sure question it, but it could be solution.

honestly the cooling isn't good, I know I said about the cooling not going above 90, but if im running prime95 it gets super hot to like 90 - 91, honestly I think it's just bad cooling and nothing else, as if im shutting down at temps at 83 I don't think it would be cause. I will re-apply the thermal paste soon to check though, same with the GPU, GPU gets pretty toasty but only stress testing on furmark, gerts to 90,but experience crashing on 87

Prime 95 hits 90C on my PC and its not from lack of cooling, it just runs hot.

so its not immediate, it took a minute to bsod.

Is that a new crash? Have you given us the dumps?
With the OCCT test it bsods after a couiple of minutes, the one that crashes instantly is when I set Power saver mode on,

i assume you mean in power plans?
shame AMD don't support that motherboard with drivers or I would offer newer ones.
