My recommendation. Just get the current cpu. It will last a long time as it is. However, if you want to you can wait. I used SLI 970's but I would just get the one and add the other later if you need it.

What resolution and frame rate are did you want to game at. What you have now seems sufficient for 1080p 60hz.

Dont skimp on the motherboard, its the basis for the system, you cant build a house without a foundation.
Since you specified that you had an FX processor, your motherboard cant support intel processors.

Reusing parts is almost never an issue.
Ram should be fine, SSDs are alright to transfer, same as HDDs.

If you are reusing your SSD and HDD as well you can try this. You can fit a 980 and keep it around $1000, I just don't think the 980 is worth $200 more, but it is your call. The 970 will max out every game at 1080p.
